Black youths disrupted the funeral of R’ Mendel Drizin, a respected real estate developer and donor, held in Crown Heights on Tuesday.
As the procession passed by Drizin’s home on Crown Street, traffic was briefly held up on Brooklyn Avenue.
That was enough for the driver and passengers of a Nissan vehicle to act in rage and punch a young Jewish woman to the ground.
A bystander, who was attending the funeral while keeping a safe social distance, told COLlive.com the person hit was attending the funeral.
“They came out of their car and started cursing,” the person said. “They hit one person and then threw water on me. One of them said he had a gun and he would shoot everyone.”
Part of the incident was photographed, showing a woman falling in the intersection near the black youths. A video clip shows one of a female passenger punching a girl in the face. In another clip, one of the male passengers is infuriated that it was being filmed and then returns to his car to drive away in a rage.
“It was shocking that they would do this during a funeral,” the bystander commented. “They could have waited another 2 minutes out of respect. It was an unprovoked attack. They were out of control.”
What is more, he added, “black people in the nearby apartment building were egging them on. One of them said, ‘Go after them!'”
An official with the NYPD 71st Precinct told COLlive.com that they are treating it as a “traffic dispute,” since the person hit did not come forward and there were no reported injuries.

The reason the title says black youths isnt to spread the message that black people are criminals but to explain that the reason this took place is because they were black so no one should blame the funeral.

There have been various attacks in crown heights as of late with a very specific pattern; black youth attacking Jews. There is an issue in the community, and stripping color from the problem isn’t going to help anyone. It will hurt the jewish community, and it will certainly hurt the black community as well.
This doesn’t mean that all black people are bad, by any means; however, we cannot ignore the pattern which had begun to emerge. We need to view the problem properly and accurately.

71st could be more sensitive to the needs of the Crown Heights Jewish community. Ifthe shoe were on the other foot and a jewish driver would have acted beligerant during a non-Jewish funeral procession, the 71st would have pressed carges against us, no doubt.

While I am most definitely not condoning the behavior of these youth, I feel it’s necessary to give some detail that is missing. As the levaya had passed through the intersection of Crown and Brooklyn and the light had already turned red, a couple of cars following behind (a Range Rover and a Honda Odyssey, if that’s of any importance) had run the red light and maneuvering around oncoming traffic. Yes we as a community need to think about our neighbors, but this in no way justifies the violent attacks or even threats that the Jewish community is routinely subjected to by our neighbors.

There is a very common and obvious way of making to clear to traffic that there a funeral procession occurring. Cars put on their hazard lights. From someone who was there. Your account of the events adds much needed details to the original story, specifically, what led to the altercation.No work. No school. No money. Double stress, double crime. They should be arrested and be doing jail time! Oh wait, the jails are letting criminals go too, so not much use there. Still, at the very least cuff them and remind them there’s still some semblance of law enforcement out here!

I would of knocked out this clown in record time. Its about time yiddrn learn to defend themselves.
