Yossi, the son of the Rebbe’s Shluchim in a southern city in Israel, is a sweet and happy eight-year-old boy. When he was two years old he was diagnosed with a rare disease called Duchene Muscular Dystrophy. This harsh disease is incurable and requires intensive day to daycare in order for him to retain his quality of life and to lengthen his life expectancy as much as possible.
The doctors all strongly oppose Yossi living in his current house, considering it hazardous, painful and a factor that will shorten his life expectancy. The most critical thing that can lengthen Yossi’s life is to ensure that he limits the strain on his muscles to the extent that is possible.
Yossi needs a ground floor apartment that is wheelchair accessible throughout the home from the entrance to bathroom bedroom and bomb shelter.
Currently, the bomb shelter is in the basement, and they need to run down a few flights of stairs to get there in less than a minute. this is impossible for them to achieve with Yossi, endangering his life in a very direct way!
Yossi’s vital necessities cannot be met in their current (rental) apartment; they must buy their own home to accommodate his needs.
Baruch Hashem, Yossi’s parents found a suitable house that is now for sale in a perfect location for Yossi and their Shlichus. A mortgage has been approved for most of this costly purchase, however, a large amount is needed for the down payment and the renovations needed for Yossi’s needs.
These devoted parents and Shluchim have put together all they have and reached out to family, friends and community members who have generously contributed towards this cause, however, they are still $150,000 short of the amount needed to make the purchase.
The Adopt A Family – Shluchim fund was approached by the family asking for our assistance. After looking into the case, we came to the conclusion that this is truly a case of Pikuach Nefesh, and we have committed ourselves to raise the $150,000 needed to guarantee the longest life expectancy for Yossi.
Yossi’s parents devote their lives to helping others in their physical and spiritual needs, it’s our responsibility to help them in their time of need. and help them give their son a home that will grant him many more years to spend with his loving family.
