On the corner of Eastern Parkway and Rochester Avenue in Crown Heights, there is a building that has been a source of trouble to its neighbors for way over a decade, and according to local residents, the situation has become so dangerous that residents say they have had enough.
The building, located at 1215 Eastern Parkway, has been the location where gangs have been seen loitering, as well as drug addicts and thugs who continuously congregate there. For the last couple of years, the police have had a continuous presence in front of that building, which helped to make the area safe again.
In addition to keeping a police car in front of the building for many hours of the day and night, there was an NYPD light projector stationed to shine on the building, keeping the area well lit and helping to avoid crime incidents.
However, for some reason unknown to the residents, around a year ago, all police presence was removed from the building. Immediately afterwards, Jewish people who live in the area report that they have began to experience trouble while walking by that building, usually at night but sometimes even during the day. Residents told COLlive.com that they have been attacked by thugs hurling all kinds of harassing statements, such as, “Here goes the guy who owns all the buildings on the block,״ and other antisemitic and hateful kind of stigmas and tropes.
Jews living in the area hoped that these issues would pass with time, they said, but unfortunately it has not gotten better.
The tension reached its peak on Erev Shabbos Nachamu, the 10th of Av – 28th of July, 2023 when a young Chabad Rabbi by the name of Yosef Yitzchok Geisinsky was passing by the building, just before the onset of Shabbos at around 8:00 PM. Geisinsky, noticeably Jewish as he was dressed in his Shabbos garb – fedora hat, suit, and dress clothing – was worried about walking there because he was familiar with the problem of the thugs hanging out there. Seeing a group of youngsters congregating in front of the building, decided to walk on the island in the middle of the parkway to be safe.
Unfortunately, this did not help, as a large gang of between 7 to 10 Black youths followed him, crossed the street to the island, and armed with pails and buckets of water which they had filled up from the nearby fire hydrant, began pouring buckets of water all over him, until he was soaking wet. His hat, shoes, and suit were completely drenched.
Geisinsky attempted to flee, but they continued to chase him all the way to the end of the block, he said.
“It was clear to me that this was an antisemitic attack,” Geisinsky told COLlive. “Because there were several other Black people and another white non-Jewish male, who were walking right near me, and yet the gangsters only surrounded me and pounded me with water,” he said.
Geisinsky said none of the other passersby were attacked at all. Since it was just before Shabbos, he was unable to contact the police right away, he says.
Immediately after Shabbos, the young man contacted the police, in order to make a police report. “It took the police more than three hours to actually arrive,” Geisinsky related. “The police refused to call it a hate crime, and instead referred to it as harassment. They said I need to come down to the Precinct to pick up the police report before they would consider any plan of action.”
Geisinsky said for the next two weeks he visited both the 71st and 77th Precincts to try to obtain a copy of the incident report, but they refused to give it to him.
“After much pressure, they finally gave me the report, but then they told me there is nothing to be done, as they consider the incident just a harassment crime, and they said it’s not serious enough for them to take action,” Geisinsky said.
“I told them that this building has been a problem for way over a year and that gangsters constantly congregate outside and harass passersby. But they said that it was out of their hands, and they couldn’t take any action regarding this matter and that the police presence would not be returned.”
The thugs who attacked him still hang out in front of the building, Geisinsky says, and the worst part of is that many people are afraid to walk on the block due to this.
“The Jewish people who live on the block are afraid to walk by that building, and constantly avoid it by crossing the street to the other side,” he said.
Over the last month, many phone calls have been made to different dignitaries In the community regarding this issue, but to no avail.
“I truly hope that with COLlive publicizing the matter, this will alert the public to this pressing issue and hopefully something will be done about this problem,” he says.

Sorry it happened
Yes it is and what difference does it make?
They will come quickly and call NYPD to come asap if need be
Dear Rabbi Geisinsky, I see you walking late at night from teaching our Bachurim in Yeshiva. That block has been filled with notorious characters for years. SHAME ON THE LANDLORD THAT RENTS TO THESE PEOPLE. There is no shortage of Yidden who would pay to live in these apartments yet they choose to bring shady people with vouchers over respectable frum families. We are ready to help you anyway we can. Please let us know what steps to take! WE NEED TO END THIS! Our streets are not safe not even on Kingston anymore. ps- GET READY! Chas v’sholom 700… Read more »

1) Mayor Adams Announces Creation of New York City’s First Jewish Advisory Council | City of New York (nyc.gov) – Contact the Crown Heights Reps and tell them to tell the other Jews on the Council that CH needs be prioritized because of safety concerns. 2) After Bloody Weekend, NYPD Beefs Up Patrols, Skywatch Towers – Gothamist – NYPD Skywatch tower should be permanently placed nearby. Ask for LinkNYC cell phone tower / surveillance as well. 3) Change Housing Policies so NYC buildings are economically diverse with criminal background checks. Only solution is to RED = Remove Every Demorat
FYI there are also respectable frum, Jewish families, even Teachers with vouchers or other government help that Jewish landlords REFUSE to rent to and discriminate against, and instead rent to goyim… Very, very sad community we live in. Teachers are treated like garbage, second class citizens… Unacceptable!
What can we as a community do to help bring justice to the people who terrorize and attack our community? Please let us know.
Also perhaps speak to Yosef Hershkop who also had an incident and got the thugs arrested even though it was a few months later. They need to learn.
All over Crown Heights. I’m so sorry this happened, but we must promote the Noahide Laws!!!! If we can advertise for every Chassidishe holiday, fabrengen, etc. then we can advertise the Noahide Laws as well. The Rebbe saw the good in gentiles, and there are many Gentiles in our community who would love to learn! If we would just stop with the holier than thou attitude for 5 minutes and actively promote the 7 Noahide laws with our neighbors we would have a much more loving and safer community. “Like water reflects a face…” try to see the Godliness in… Read more »
Shoving the 7 Noahide laws at them is an exact example of a holier than thou attitude. You don’t need “the laws of Gd” in order to be a good person leading a good life. Non-Jews are holy because they are people regardless of what laws they do or do not follow, just the same as Jews.
…for not taking a crime seriously and thereby failing to pursue it or devote resources to the crime!
The police have a lot of excuses these days. But I think it is b/c the “defund the police” trend has left the police forced to do triage and treat crimes like this as low priority. So they have to make up excuses to not take these crimes seriously.
Vote! And vote out the “defund the police” politicians — starting with the City Council, the mayor, state legislators, and the governor!
Otherwise, nothing will change, c”v!
WHY ISNT SOMETHING BEING DONE ABOUT THE LANDLORD RENTING TO THESE THUGS?
If police make an arrest the perp will be released immediately so police dont want to be bothered.
Only way is if its labled a hate crime
Please be more aware of your words and do not implicate guilt on an entire race of people over this one event. The police kill black people, therefore please do not give them any more excuses to commit murder against our fellow human beings.
Which comment or line are you referring to?
There was no such implication anywhere.
People who attack Jews (even if with water) because they are Jewish should pay a price.
Jews shouldn’t need to be afraid to walk the streets!
The previous commenter never said “Black” when using the word thug.
It is racist to imply that thugs are only Black.
I am offended.

What gobbledygook! Police are people just like the rest of humanity. They are not “The Police” and they do not “kill black people.” Some police are bad guys who kill black people. Some blacks are bad guys who kill white people. And some people inadvertently reveal their racism simply by making a point of singling out black people to be treated more kindly and gently than white people who might engage in the same behavior would actually be treated. You, dear commenter are the one showing racist tendencies. Reverse racism is still racism, you know; think about it…
Wake up yidden!!! Living in America today is not much different than living in Europe during the 1930s!!!
um no… not accepting that. we have so many freedoms! stop playing victim. The Rebbe said the Gentiles in the US are very refined and on the level to receive and keep the Noahide laws. http://www.asknoah.org
America Iz Nisht Anderish…
We will cal the Precint every night and tell them about this, when they get inundated with calls maybe they won’t ignore is. Unfortunately our community leaders won’t do anything even when pointedly yet respectfully stopping them on the streets and asking what’s being done to protect us. Why do we accept this abuse? Maybe Shomrim can help act as liaisons with the Precint? Crazy to think how much worse with the shelters coming, kudos to Jay Sorid for trying when our leaders don’t.
Please everyone call the Precint +1 (718) 735-0511
Thank you for your kind comment, but I do not deserve to be mentioned in the same paragraph as the Shomrim when it comes to their bravery, safety and personal sacrifice.
Jay Sorid
Unfortunately this occuring way too often and no one seems to care and take charge. Is there anyone in this community that actually cares and will do something to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future? Going to the police is important to deal with the aftermath but the question is what means are taken to prevent this from happening another time c”v? I have yet to hear of someone in this community that is doing anything to try and prevent such a thing from happening again!
Vote!!!
…and let’s do something about the sites where African Americans can use any voting machine but yidden can only use the machine missing its seal!
Buy a thick chain and padlock and wrap it around the front gate doors of the building so you lock in all the bums. Let the police be busy trying to cut the chains. And if you want to stop the hangouts just pour buckets of sewage waste on the curb area and non of these criminals will see and around with that smell.
What about the building on Kingston and Lefferts…
Things will only change when the leaders stop using money as a pawn to vote for democrats because it’s not about helping the community in the end most people motives are money.
I don’t see any mention of cameras in the article. Surely the police have city cameras there. why was that not looked into?
“they would not give him a police report till after much pressure”. Hard to believe that. In any case go to 1 police plaza and you’ll get it
