Last Shabbos was a busy time for Chabad on Carlisle – Jewish Russian Centre, in Melbourne, Australia.
Almost 100 young professionals from the Jewish Russian community came together for a beautiful event at Quat Quatta, a restored grand mansion reception centre.
The program began late Shabbos afternoon, with the guests enjoying hors d’oeuvres during the last hour of Shabbos. A mystical and musical Havdalah ceremony, led by Rabbi Yisroel Sufrin, ushered out the Shabbos, and also paid tribute to the memory of two young women who were tragically lost from the community in the past year, Regina Rodin and Marina Muchnik, in whose honor the event was dedicated.
The theme of the evening was a celebration of life, which was artfully expressed by an interstate motivational speaker Sebastian Terry, followed by music and a gourmet 3 course meal. The evening ended with a surprise performance of ‘Chassidic’ break dancers, to the enjoyment of all.
Friends of the two ladies spent the last few months organizing the event, and their efforts certainly paid off.
For many of the attendees, it was their first Shabbos experience, and definitely a most memorable one. Following on the great success of this inaugural event, Chabad on Carlisle plans to continue offering various Young Professionals events for the Jewish Russian community.
Go Melbourne !!!
