Shua Katzman, 22, has released a new album of Chabad Niggunim. A talented musician, this is his second album of Niggunim. The album is a collection of seven traditional Chabad melodies, performed as instrumentals with no vocals.
“I find instrumentals to be very powerful,” Katzman told COLlive. “After receiving great feedback from family and friends on the album I produced last year, I felt encouraged to share my second album with the public.”
Born in Crown Heights, Katzman began taking piano lessons at age 9. A few years ago, he started learning the saxophone as well. Today, he balances his time between giving music lessons, playing the saxophone at weddings and other events, studying in Kolel, and learning to play the drums.
Katzman’s first inspiration to produce the Chabad Niggunim albums came after he noticed how well people connected to Niggunim, specifically the instrumental versions. Recognizing a lack of such music available, he decided to produce his own.
The new album includes six soul-stirring Niggunim and one lively one. It features well-known and timeless Niggunim, such as Kol Dodi and Darkecha, ensuring that everyone can enjoy and benefit from them.
“A Niggun is called the pen of the soul,” Katzman says. “Music, particularly Niggunim, touches the deepest parts of our Neshamah. I only hope I can convey that through my music.”
Katzman’s new album is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
