What a young woman does after she leaves high school says a lot about the education she received. Although Bnos Chomesh is a relatively young school, only finishing its 15th year, our graduates are making their mark on the world. Here’s what some of them are up to now:
Miriam Leah (Lieblich) Lokshin, Buffalo NY, Class of 2016
After High School I attended Chaya Aydel Seminary in Florida. Now I am a birth doula and live in Buffalo, NY for the past 3 years. We are really enjoying the slower pace and wonderful community. Our daughter Sima is 7.5 months, growing so fast and finally enjoying some sunshine!
What I appreciated as a student and am so grateful for now is the open communication and space to ask. I wasn’t judged for questioning Yiddishkeit when I didn’t understand and my teachers tried to find the answers to the best of their ability. Now, it is paying off as I am confident in my beliefs, and hope to iy”H pass that on to my daughter. And as much as I hate to admit, ידיעות כלליות comes in handy quite often!
Pessy (Steinherz) Malachowksi, New Haven CT, Class of 2010
I attended Seminary in S. Agathe, and after I got married I moved to New Haven. I am currently working as a kindergarten teacher. I am the mother of four beautiful children, two girls and two boys. BCA is a school that puts their all into each person who attends there. I would love for my children to feel the amount of love and dedication they had for each student.
Ariella (Gribov) Scop, Mill Valley, California, Class of 2017
After High School I attended Chaya Aydel Seminary in Florida. After I got married, my husband Shneur and I moved to Northern California (where my husband grew up on Shlichus). I am a stay at home mommy to our 3 month old baby boy Levi who was born on Purim. My husband has a real estate business. We live in Mill Valley (right across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco) where we are surrounded by stunning views. You can typically find us spending our Sundays exploring the beautiful place that we live in.
I think the biggest thing that stands out to me about spending 4 years in BCA is the family love not only during the years you spend in school but it’s the many years after that. The teachers care and always remember you for the amazing person they helped shape us to be. This past month my family took a trip to New York and I bumped into a former teacher (Simi). We exchanged the biggest hug and caught up as if I was going to see her later that day in school! It’s the love you feel forever and something I’ve only seen at BCA.
Mindle (Lerner) Vaskovsky, Crown Heights, Class of 2018
After graduating High School, I attended Seminary Shoshanat Yerushalayim. I am currently working on my bachelors degree in music – studying piano, music theory, harmony, and improving my musical performance. I am a piano teacher in the making 🙂
My mother taught math and keyboard at Bnos Chomesh for a few years, while I was a BCA student. I always saw my mother as a teacher who is actually simultaneously a therapist, as she goes on a journey with her students and guides them to trust, and grow where they feel the weakest. This is how my teachers at Bnos Chomesh taught me. They showed me how deeply they cared about me, my happiness and my growth. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a little kid, but it was during my time at BCA that I realized what kind of teacher I want to be.
My time at Bnos Chomesh is not only a part of my life that I think of often, but a core part of who I am today. I loved going to school every day, I really did, knowing that I’d be greeted with love and encouraged to work hard. I felt that my teachers and principals were invested in me and were with me in whatever challenge I might have been facing. I’m forever grateful and lucky that I was led to BCA.
Yocheved Batya Michelashvili, Crown Heights, Class of 2019
After Seminary Alef in Milan, and Sem Bais at Bais Rivkah, CH, I spent the year in Milwaukee, Wisconsin trying to share the light BCA ignited in me with the girls of Bader Hillel High school. I tried to channel the love, patience and wisdom of my teachers in Bnos Chomesh. When I think of BCA I think of gratitude. Gratitude for the home of patience, acceptance, joy, confidence and family they gave me during high school and, yes, even three years post-graduation, to help me grow to my fullest potential.
Please keep BCA in mind as they try to reach their Charidy Goal today.
