Yeshivas Hashluchim, an exclusive Semicha Program for post Shlichus Bochurim began its year on a high note.
Founded by Rabbi Shmuel Plotkin, and now entering its eighth year since inception, Yeshivas Hashluchim continues to be an excellent program for Bochurim seeking to learn Semicha on a high level while honing their Shlichus skills outside of learning hours.
Rabbi Plotkin’s vision was to provide this specific age group of bochurim with a yeshiva where they could not only focus on their own growth and receive a very high level of Semicha, but also to have the opportunity to get involved in a community and partner with the Shluchim to teach and inspire community members through one-on-one learning and various other programs and activities.
After spending quality time at various host Chabad Houses in NYC, Rabbi Rotenstreich of Chabad of Chelsea and Rabbi Yudi Shmotkin of Chabad of Hamilton Heights to name a few, Yeshivas Hashluchim is now well into its fifth year as a proud fixture of its host community, Chabad of the West Side, under the leadership of Rabbi Shlomo Kugel.
The Bochurim dorm in beautifully renovated apartments provided to them by Chabad of the West Side. All of their basic necessities, food and more is generously provided to them by the Yeshiva.
In the mornings, the Bochurim begin their day under the tutelage of their Menahel and morning Magid Shiur Rabbi Shaya Liberow. In addition to preparing a curriculum of Chassidus and the additional Semicha topics that the Bochurim are required to master, Rabbi Liberow also cares for all of the Bochurim’s material needs.
Following lunch, the students are lucky to be joined by their main Magid Shiur, Rabbi Yossi Barber.
Rabbi Barber guides the Bochurim through the complexities of Semicha by drawing on his vast knowledge of the subjects and experience in teaching Semicha to hundreds of Bochurim throughout the years. His almost daily Shiurim, delivered in a clear and systematic way, take the Bochurim far beyond the basic requirements of a Semicha test as he introduces them to a plethora of Poskim from across the Halachic spectrum. The result is that the learning is done in a thorough manner down to Halacha L’maaseh. Thanks to his meticulously planned learning schedule, the Bochurim are able to finish Semicha within the year while maintaining an unparalleled caliber of learning.
To date, Yeshivas Hashluchim has ordained over 60 rabbis who hail from all over the world, including Australia, Italy, Ukraine, France, England, and all across the US.
In an exciting development, Chabad of the West Side has recently leased a beautiful new storefront for their Young Leadership Shabbos Minyan led by Rabbis Yisrael Kugel and Mendel Kugel.
During the week, half the space is used as a Beis Medrash and Shul where the Bochurim learn and the other half is a beautiful upscale kosher cafe managed by the renowned Patis Bakery! The space is right in the center of all the Upper West Side action and really allows the Bochurim to be immersed in the community! Of course, breakfast and lunch is provided by the cafe!
