Chanukah activities by Chabad Shluchim throughout war-torn Ukraine were expanded this year, thanks to a unique reinforcement team – 26 yeshiva students from around the world who came especially for the 8 days of Chanukah.
The bochurim arrived as part of the ‘Merkos Shlichus’ project – a program founded by the Rebbe, under which young men are sent to help Jewish people around the world. These bochurim visited dozens of Ukraine cities as locals deal with the ongoing war.
The bochurim held public Menorah lighting ceremonies and visited individuals in their homes, bringing Menorah kits, donuts and a warm smile. In total, is it estimated that Chabad reached thousands of Jews this Chanukah.
This operation was sponsored by Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch Vice Chairman Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, who oversees the Merkos Shlichus program and run by JRNU, the Chabad relief network in Ukraine.
The Chanukah campaign, coordinated by Itamar Wolf of Odessa, concluded on Sunday night with the lighting of the eighth candle.
