Known by the popular moniker “valley of the sun” for its abundance of sunshine, the Phoenix metro area is a mecca for those seeking to get away from the cold and ice to luxuriate in the beautiful winter weather.
This winter has been somewhat of an anomaly, as the mercury has remained stubbornly cold (by Arizona standards), and there have been many rainy days.
No matter the climate, though, Mesivta Lubavitch of Arizona, located in Scottsdale, Arizona, has proven to be a beacon of light and warmth for the past few months. At almost all hours of the day, inside of Seder and out, Bochurim can be seen applying themselves diligently to some new learning mivtza or other.
While not in learning Seder, and ably assisted by the dedicated Shluchim, the Bochurim utilized their free time to engage in mivtzoim and outreach to the wider community as well. Over Chanukah, teams of Bochurim from the Yeshiva heeded the call and went out to light up the entire region.
They took Arizona “by storm”, and the Bochurim criss-crossed the outlying communities as well to enhance the Chanukah Mivtzoim activities for the shluchim of the entire state, leading one shliach to comment that they really raised the bar this year with the help of the Bochurim.
Mind you, it wasn’t only the Bochurim who got into the spirit. A casual interaction by a group of Bochurim in a Mivtza tank led by the Mashpia of Shiur Beis, Rabbi Levi Altein at a red light, led to a quick gift of a Chanukah Menorah to a well known Arizona media personality, who then tweeted — to his tens of thousands of followers – the tremendous impression made by the Bochurim.
Soon to be entering its third – Chazoko – year and with a focus on individual attention and a warm approach to its student body, the Mesivta, led by veteran Mechanech Rabbi Abba Naparstek, joined by the Magidei Shiurim, Rabbi Dechter and Rabbi Thaler, has earned itself a reputation as one that aspires to excellence in learning, Chasidishe Hanachos and Yiras Shomayim as well.
The beautiful dormitories and great weather make for a wonderful option for a serious-minded young Bochur.
