Yehudis Gralnik, a beloved wife, mother, Bubby and Alte Bubby to a large family, passed away on 8 Nissan in Monsey, New York.
She lived the past 8 years of her life with her daughter, Devorah Hayman and her husband, Avraham, after the passing of her husband, Avraham Leib Gralnik ע״ה.
Having raised a large family in a not yet developed Jewish community of Torrance, California, Mrs Gralnik, from memories of her childhood, established the foundations of Jewish life in her home. She became the backbone of Jewish observance that would slowly bear fruit.
Her husband found inspiration from CHABAD of UCLA and the late Rabbi Schwartz ( Schwartzie), which led him, and ultimately Mrs. Gralnik and many of their children, on the path to becoming ba’alei Teshuva. She and her husband ultimately became essential pillars in the CHABAD of South Bay community in Lomita CA, under Rabbi Eli Hecht. Her observance and her Hiskashrus to the Rebbe grew, and she would make sure to daven and say chitas before work, and spread her love of the Rebbe to others.
Mrs Gralnik was known and loved for her kindness, warmth and effervescent personality, and was a light of simcha and positivity in the world. She greeted every person with a glowing smile and irresistible “hello”.
She worked throughout her married life to help support her family, and her home was always the centre of Jewish life for the entire family. Even before the family knew what a mitzvo was, Friday nights were filled with Kiddush, song and a Shabbos meal.
As she and her husband became established in Yiddishkeit and their community, dozens of recently inspired Jews would spend entire Shabbosim and Yomim Tovim at their home, where she was renowned for her warm hospitality, delicious meals, and particularly her challah. Indeed, several of their “adopted” kids would have them as Unterfirim at their weddings.
Mr and Mrs Gralnik were blessed to see a 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of shomrei Torah and Mitzvo grandchildren following in the ways of the Rebbe.
Mrs Gralnik is survived by her six children, David Gralnik (S. Clemente, CA) Richard Gralnik (Valley Village, CA) Shoshana Nassy (Los Angeles, CA) Ron Gralnik (Redondo Beach, CA) Devorah Hayman (Monsey, NY) and Reuven Gralnik (Johannesburg, South Africa), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The levaya is being held today at Mt. Olives Cemetery, City of Commerce California.
The family will be sitting shiva together in Los Angeles after the levaya on Friday and part of Sunday, with further locations up to Erev Pesach to be provided after Shabbos.
Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.
She would come to the N’shei conventions in NY long before Gimmel Tammuz and stay with my Parents. She was spirited and Tue to her Yiddishkeit. May she be a Gutte Better to her family.
Wishing them comfort and only joy.
Condolences to the family!
She was so warm! I loved seeing her every time I came to visit Lomita.
May Hashem comfort the whole family and may we merit the coming of Moshiach when we will be reunited with our loved ones!
