R’ Yehuda Loeub, a longtime resident in the Chabad neighborhood in Montreal, Canada who devoted his life to kindness, passed away on Motzoei Shabbos, 3 Sivan, 5784.
He was 70 years old.
Yehuda was born on June 1, 1951, in Casablanca, Morocco, where he was raised as one of eight siblings in a close-knit and influential community. His family’s strong ties to the Jewish community in Casablanca shaped his early years.
In the late 1960s, due to increasing antisemitism, Yehuda and his family moved first to France and then to Israel, where he served honorably in the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and fought during the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
Following his service, Yehuda and his family emigrated to Montreal, Canada. It was in Montreal that he met his beloved wife, Claudine, with whom he shared over 45 years of marriage.
Yehuda’s life took a profound turn when he connected with some of the local Chabad Shluchim, leading him to become an ardent Baal Teshuva and rediscover his Jewish roots.
He lived in the Cote-des-Neiges neighborhood, in the heart of the Lubavitch community and a walking distance from Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch, where he would often be seen davening.
Yehuda devoted his life to acts of kindness and community service, embodying the very essence of an “Ish Chesed.”
He took on the role of fundraising for numerous Montreal Torah institutions, including Yeshivos in the city of Tosh, Beth Rivkah Academy girls school, and Yeshiva Yavne to name among the few.
His dedication extended beyond institutional support; he was a pillar of the Montreal Jewish community, personally assisting families in need. Every Shabbos and Yom Tov, Yehuda could be found delivering boxes of food, supplies, and essentials to ensure that every family had what they needed.
He is survived by his wife Claudine Loeub, their his children, Benjamin Loeub – Montreal, Quebec; Ora Fortgang – Pomona, New York; Rabbi Chalom Loeub – Vancouver, British Columbia; and grandchildren.
The levaya will be held today, Sunday, June 9, 5:00 PM at Papermans & Son’s Funeral Homes in Montreal.
The shiva times will be posted after the funeral.

When I would visit montreal 25 years ago there was no question that Yehuda and his family made me feel like a brother and like I belonged in the house and at the table like any other member of the family. When I saw him recently in the hospital he wasn’t able to speak…but his trademark smile said it all…he will be sorely missed!
