340 Conservative and Reform rabbis from across the Unites States publically endorsed the nuclear deal with Iran which Israel says will help rein in terrorist activities.
In a letter to Congress distributed by Ameinu, a progressive Jewish organization, they wrote: “We encourage the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives to endorse this agreement.”
Their aim is to dispel “the impression that the leadership of the American Jewish community is united in opposition to the agreement.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is strongly opposed to the deal. He argues it will fail to block Iran’s path to nuclear weapons that could be used to target the Jewish state, it was reported.
The pro-Israel lobby AIPAC, Anti-Defamation League (ADL), American Jewish Committee, Conference of Presidents and the Jewish Federations of North America have all come out against the deal.
To illustrate the article about the rabbis’ support, one television channel used the group photo from this past annual International Kinus Hashluchim convention at Lubavitch Headquarters in Brooklyn, NY.
The Chabad-Lubavitch movement typically doesn’t comment about public affairs, although its members are known to be strong and unwavering supporters of the safety and security of Israel and its Jewish citizens.
But, searching for a photo of rabbis, the Tel Aviv based 24-hour news and current affairs television channel i24news used a photo of Chabad rabbis on its homepage.
As a post- Holocaust child, I sat with my grandmother as she read a letter in Yiddish more than 10 years after the camps were freed from her sister who survived and made it to Israel. She described how the Nazis laughed and threw her baby into the air and used her for target practice. I never spoke or understood Yiddish again. We are now living in a similar time to 1938 Germany. We must not be silent. Every Jew who cares about Israel or their own life and their families lives must speak up. Call your Senators and Congressmen… Read more »
Everyone getting so excited and angry that some backwater website used this picture accidentally. The bigger point is that shtika khodaa, or we in Lubavitch are coming across in support of this deal by not actively opposing. How many of you called your congressperson or participated in a protest? Where are the shluchim on this? And what would you be doing in the 1930’s as usa refused to help European Jews escape the Nazis. Most American Jews did what we’re doing now. Nothing. Because chv we could make someone angry or lose a donation. Tick tock.
Look on their website. Now picture is with female and male rabbis
Our silence on this deal is embarrassing, an abrogation of leadership, dangerous, and selfish (worried about donors). I firmly believe that the Rebbe would be shouting from the rooftops. This isn’t politics, it’s pikuach nefesh. Where are all the shluchim in leadership positions and what are they saying and doing???
it looks like they changed it
SUE SUE SUE
The news station should be sued for misrepresentation
First of all, the US constitution is not part of the 7 mitzvos bnei noach! On the contrary, it contradicts and forbids those mitzvos, since it guarantees to idolaters the free exercise of their religion, and to blasphemers free speech. Second, this deal does not violate the constitution. The fact that it hasn’t been ratified by 2/3 of the senate just means it doesn’t have the legal status of a treaty. It’s not part of US law, and is not binding on anyone. It’s just a private agreement that the president has made, and which he intends to keep. He… Read more »
My first thought was Chabad should openly and officially campaign against the Iran deal.
On reflection, I sense our most effective work is achieved behind the scenes.
Quiet, diplomatic but firm representations should be made to Congress men and women, Senators and all others who can influence the vote in Congress in September.
Silence can be viewed as acquiescence. Is that mistake a Divine hint?
The Rebbe would reject the Iran Nuclear Deal firstly because it in violation of the U.S. Constitution. Article 2, Clause 2 states that the Treaty Limitation Clause prohibits a President from creating a Treaty with a foreign country without a two-thirds approval of Congress. The very idea of vetoing Congress is an absurd twist of logic. The Drafters viewed the Treaty Clause as a fundamental principle of an empowered citizenry in sharp distinction to the British Monarchy where the power of treaty-signing was the exclusively at the will and pleasure of the king. By presenting the Treaty with Iran to… Read more »
This is true, and reflective of what things will be like when Moshiach comes. Right now, with groups like this sickeningly misguided Leftist one that used the picture of Lubavitcher shluchim to misguide others as well (I think the “mistake” was deliberate)) we’re a far cry from all Yidden advocating for shlaimus haaretz, or for living a Torah’dikeh life.
Wow, what amazing Hashgach Pratis! Let’s all use this opportunity to publicize the Rebbe’s views and vision for true Peace in the Middle East and the World at large. When there will be Shleimus HaAretz in all its particulars as the Rebbe outlined, the enemies of peace will turn into advocates of goodwill and do everything to support the security and growth of Jews in Eretz Yisroel.
All Shluchim need to support 535 Bad Iran Deal, a grassroots movement that plans to hold rallies in front of the 535 Congressmen’s offices at 5:35 PM on August 31,2015. All of the citizens of Israel as well as the United States need to be protected from this dangerous deal with Iran. I strongly agree with #6. Hashem is sending us a test and we need to pass this test and bring MOSHIACH NOW!!
ADERABA! This is an opportunity for ALL SHLUCHIM to show their unwavering support for shleimus ha’aretz – and mount a massive campaign to demand from all the political representatives of each and every state – to OPPOSE this deal! This deal puts yidden in eretz yisroel in danger – and ALSO…..yidden all over the world in danger!!! Esther ha’malka was put into achashevirosh’s palace – not by coincidence, but by hashgacha pratis. If they have influence with ANY elected official – they have an OBLIGATION to speak out against this misrable deal. “…..DO NOT ASSUME, BECAUSE YOU ARE IN THE… Read more »
A shameless irresponsible act
think about it it’s א הימל גישריי to use this photo
responsible people will do something about it
not to be ignored
Shluchim are involved in helping at earth quakes and busy with every other disaster in the world reagardless if there are no yidden involved so why not voice their strong opinion on something in what the rebbe yelled for yrs “shlamis haaretz” is that not a shlichus?? This is not politics or election in israel (in which we dont get involved) this is pukuach nefesh and just imagine the yelling abt this by a farbrengen. Did every shliach call his senator to vote against it? This will only get the shliach more respect. Maybe this mistaken picture has some meaning… Read more »

Perhaps this is an opportunity to voice the rebbes opinion on shleimus haaretz, since this “deal” risks Israels safety
They should sure for false light
