Rabbi Shlomo Noginski, who was repeatedly stabbed outside the Shaloh House Jewish Russian Center & Synagogue in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, was seen being discharged home several hours after he was attacked on Thursday.
In video footage uploaded by a Chabad colleague, Rabbi Noginski was seen saying “thank you” to the camera as he was being released from the Boston Medical Center. The stabbing caused non-life-threatening injuries.
Rabbi Noginski, who is in his 50s, was born in Russia and raised in Israel. He is a husband and father of 12 children and is part of the staff at the Shaloh House, founded by the Rebbe, to exclusively cater to the needs of the Russian-speaking Jewish community. Russian Jews represent over 30% of the total Jewish population in the Greater Boston area.
In a statement, Boston Police identified the attacker as Khaled Awad, a 24-year-old man of Brighton. They said he is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court on charges of Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.
Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack, CBS Boston reported.
“We are working closely with Law Enforcement to get a clearer picture of what happened, and will not comment on the motive while the investigation is ongoing,” Rabbi Dan Rodkin, who is the director of Shaloh House where Rabbi Noginski serves, said to Lubavitch.com.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Yair Lapid wrote: “Sending blessings of recovery and great strength to the Chabad Shliach in Boston Shlomo Noginski who was stabbed (apparently due to antisemitic motives). We are praying for your wellbeing.”
According to a report, Rabbi Noginski was outside the center when the attacker approached him while armed with a gun and a knife.
“The attacker came to him and pointed a gun at him, and said, ‘Open your car.’ [Rabbi Noginski] gave him the key and said, ‘Here’s the key’. And he said ‘No, you open the car,’” said Rabbi Rodkin.
He said Rabbi Noginski and the attacker struggled by the car near the entrance to the park until the rabbi was able to run away.
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who represents Brighton, wrote: “Rabbi Noginski and his family are in my prayers tonight. While we await further details & pray for his recovery, let me say plainly that all of our neighbors deserve to live free from fear. Antisemitism is a clear and persistent threat to our communities.”
Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey wrote: “Violence, hatred, and anti-Semitism have no place in the Commonwealth, and we must do everything we can to ensure Massachusetts is always a welcoming and safe place for every person, no matter their background or beliefs.”
Other elected officials such as Governor of Massachusetts Charlie Baker, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, Acting Mayor of Boston Kim Janey, and Senator Elizabeth Warren have yet to comment about the attack on their Twitter accounts.

The attacker is an Amish White Supremacist no doubt.
There is hatred from the children of Ishmael and Esav. Those giving a pass to Proud Boys and their ilk are no better than the Hamasniks
Do you have any actual examples of attacks by the Proud Boys? Or is it just that you and your ilk have decided they’re bad, with no evidence?
And a Trump supporter
without a doubt lol
If he were white, or Christian, then that would be in the headline, and there would be endless chin-pulling, as you said, about the dangers of white males, and of Trump, and so on and so forth.
But because it’s a black, and a Muslim? – nothing.
No he is a Muslim that should be deported after he serves his sentence. All these Muslim extremists must be rooted out and expelled from the US.
He tweeted about palestine. This will obviously get no media coverage.
It wasn’t by the headlines but there was a full article with graphic pictures and which identified the criminal. B”H the Rabbi succeeded in fighting g him off and then criminal ran away straight into the police. His original intent appeared to be to kidnap him and take him to a remote spot t”l.
If it was a Black, Muslim or Asain person who had been repeatedly stabbed, the liberal (mainstream) news agencies would have instantly, labeled it a hate crime.
But if it’s a Jew who was attacked, especially if it was a Torah following Jew, then it must always be questioned, whether it was because the victim, was a Jew.
The criminal had a gun and knife but he succeeded in thwarting him.
