For Yehudis Safal, raising 13 kids was in and of itself a challenge. But when she developed severe vision impairment and became 100% disabled, the challenges in her life were brought to a whole new level of hard. Simple things that the experienced mother once took for granted such as grocery shopping or getting her kids dressed for school became completely unfamiliar territory.
When Yehudis’s husband left the picture, she realized Hashem believed in her more than she could have ever possibly fathomed.
Incredibly, Yehudis somehow picked up the broken pieces in her life and started over. She faced the test of learning how to to raise her 13 children alone, and as a blind woman. Yehudis even found a job suitable for her disability as a caregiver for the elderly. Although it wasn’t much, it was enough to feed 13 hungry tummies at home.
Recently, Yehudis was overjoyed to share the wonderful news that her daughter Batsheva became a Kallah.
“She is over the moon,” says Yehudis, describing what it has been like for her family ever since the engagement. “But honestly, I am terrified. I don’t even know where to begin…I am barely covering rent as it is.”
Yehudis has turned to crowdfunding and the kindness of Jewish strangers across the world to help raise the money she lacks to marry her daughter off. Those who wish to help her do so without a husband can click here.
