Neshamos.org, a Crown Heights-based organization dedicated to creating a healthy inner life for the community, held two workshops promoting awareness of social and emotional health for community educators in preparation for the new school year.
Chana Kaiman, LCSW, presented an interactive workshop for caregivers and teachers of infants through preschool age children. The audience was enraptured in a dynamic display of role-playing along with directives on how to successfully navigate real-life classroom scenarios.
Participants left with a renewed appreciation for child-centered exploration, practical activities for supporting student’s emotional health and safety. The workshop also provided a clear understanding of expected milestones for each stage of a child’s development.
The second workshop addressed high school teachers and featured two presenters. Lisa Rosenblatt, LCSW spoke from her position as a former teacher and psychotherapist. She shared her personal experiences and offered tools to assist teachers in creating a healthy and safe learning environment.
Miriam Raskin shared her journey to health and encouraged teachers to attune to their own “inner being” in order to be effective role models for the students. She underlined the point that mental health and balance is a vital preface for internalizing lessons.
