Annual Global Shidduch Bake 2024-5784
Erev Shabbos Nachamu, Friday, August 16/12 Av
Do you know someone looking for a shidduch?
Have you ever spoken to someone in the ‘parsha’, whether a parent or the single themselves?
There have been countless articles written and raging debates on family WhatsApp groups and shabbos tables, all discussing how to help our friends and family find their bashert.
You might be thinking to yourself, there’s nothing that little old me can do about this global crisis. (If it is a crisis or not, is, of course, the subject of other articles- but not this one.)
Beyond thinking and matchmaking (which I encourage everyone to set aside time and thought to), there is something more we can do.
(This is not the space to discuss how to treat singles like fully developed human beings and not reduce their entire existence to not yet being married, but I digress.)
Ten years ago, Challah Bake International launched the global Chamisha Assar B’Av Shidduch Bake, inviting women worldwide to make challah and daven for those seeking a shidduch.
Recently, I prepared my challah dough, thinking of the singles I know. Miraculously, I moved some names from my shidduch list to a new one—praying for couples to be blessed with children. This powerful moment reaffirmed the strength of our collective tefilos.
As Challah Bake International celebrates a decade of davening for shidduchim on Erev Shabbos Nachamu, will you join this extraordinary opportunity? Will you be part of this global movement and participate in this powerful act of unity and davening? We will daven for Eretz Yisroel, the safe return of hostages, and those in our community still seeking the other half of their neshama.
From London to Lagos, Miami to Melbourne, and Johannesburg to Jerusalem, this global initiative harnesses the unique power of a woman’s tefillah. Last year, thousands participated, and even more are expected this year. Your davening, your baking, your challah—all of it is essential. Joining thousands of others creates a powerful and indescribable unity.
It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and complain, debate and discuss. Although the Talmud states, “To match couples together is as difficult as the splitting of the sea”. As Yidden, we believe that our mitzvos and tefilos have the power to transform our reality here in this world. So don’t just be a bystander, be a part of the solution!
The tenth annual Challah Bake International promises to be an unforgettable gathering, transcending borders and bringing together women from every corner of the globe. Imagine baking challah in your own home, virtually connected to countless other women. As you read the list of names, envision women worldwide, from Africa to Argentina and beyond, standing in their flour-dusted kitchens, engaging in the same mitzvah with the same kavana. This experience will transform you, inspire you, and fill you with hope.
Now more than ever before, the world needs your tefilos! Be a part of this opportunity and JOIN NOW.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Challah Bake International forms What’sApp groups of 100 women and the names of their submitted “singles” are read by each woman in that group when challah is taken in their own homes. At the same time, each woman gives tzedokah and takes on a hachlota to light candles or to motivate at least one other woman to light Shabbos candles. To boost the power of this moment, we suggest that to complete the circle of the 3 mitzvahs, women learn more about the Mikvah or donate to a mikvah of their choice
– this is a segulah for our singles to marry soon and fulfill the sacred mitzvah of Taharas Ha’Mishpacha -Family Purity. We will also offer an opportunity to donate to Mikvah Mei Chaya Mushkah.
