A flight attendant on Israel’s national carrier El Al was hospitalized in serious condition after she contracted the measles virus on a flight from New York to Tel Aviv last week.
The employee, who is in her 40s, is unconscious and attached to a respirator.
According to Channel 12, the woman had been vaccinated.
The Health Ministry warned people who were on board El AL flight 002 — which left John F. Kennedy Airport on March 26 and landed in Israel a day later — to immediately seek medical care if they develop symptoms of the highly infectious disease.
Israel has seen an outbreak of measles in the past year, recording 3,600 cases since March 2018, according to the ministry.
Infections have mostly centered on the country’s ultra-Orthodox community, where inoculation rates have generally been low.
In November, an 18-month-old toddler in Jerusalem died of the disease, the first recorded death from measles in Israel in the past 15 years. A month later, an 82-year-old woman became the second fatality.
refuah shilama!!!!may all sick people have a speady recovery
I am a bubbie surrounded by unvaxxed kids. Having blood test next week. Our family does not build up immunity to.rubella. I have a respoibility to all women who might be or become pregnant. Non vaxxers are several selfish. Periof

And then there’s this that no one pays attention to
Anyone who is worried about their immunity to measles should take a blood titre test. If they thought they had measles at some point and arent sure and dont want to vaccinate – just take a blood titre test. Also good to determine if the vaccination was effective in providing immunity
You said everything true that I also thought and wanted to point out. Thank you.
Two of my adult sisters-in-law had their titres checked in the wake of the measles case in Crown Heights. Although they were both properly immunised as children, they were no longer immune and needed a booster shot… Have your titres checked and make sure you are still immune, people!
Article said she caught on the plane. What are you taking about with your conspiracy theory ignorant mishegas
The epidemic is in the Frum community. She did not contract the illness at the night club or library. She contracted it with her exposure to the frum community. That is the likely truth. Her exposure to our community is when she works on the plane. We own this.
That’s like saying if someone was injured in an accident while wearing a seatbelt its fine to not wear a seat belt.
That flight was 8 days ago. The earliest measles symptoms can show up is 7 days after exposure, but usually in the 10-12 range. In any case the first symptoms are nonspecific and mild, a level of complications like she has, while possible (though rare) would have to take at least another 5-7 days to happen. She could not possibly have contracted measles on that flight.
(Another possibility is that she contracted measles much earlier and may have been contagious herself on that flight, but that’s not what’s implied).
#3, seriously? Do you know that people who get a vaccine are contagious for a few days? Do you know she was fully vaccinated? Do you know that there is an incubation period before a person gets sick? Do you know that more childre. DIE from the vaccine than from the disease? You dont have to believe me. Check it out for yourself on the government’s website which is obligated by law to report adverse reactions to vaccines. Blaming never gets anyone anywhere. Do research. Its out there for everyone to read.
Stop the selfish agenda and think of the well being of others , not only anti vaxxers are ignorant but also dangerous , time to come to your senses….
We absolutely can blame anti-vaccinators for bringing back measles and causing this outbreak. Yes, vaccines are not 100% effective, but people who are not vaccinated are 100% non – immune (unless they’ve already had measles) and will spread measles on a much larger scale.
how were they supposed to know
Yes ElAl can’t board sick crew members! It’s very irresponsible, this girl could have care 12 or more hours earlier and all flight was safe.
Need to know where exactly she became sick…. – means need investigation and all her previous flights in the past days must be notified as well
How can you blame el al. It is the people who refuse to vaccinate who are at fault here
Can’t blame anyone this time 🙂
And now all flight ✈ in a high risk, they need to check where she was like 4 last days . Possibly she was sick when boarded from TLV to JFK and it’s very irresponsible from ELAl to board sick flight attendants they were supposed to admit her in NY to local hospital.
I don’t think anyone from passengers made her sick in 12 hours flight, she was sick way before!
