A window at the Chabad Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico was shattered sometime Wednesday night, in what may have been an antisemitic act of vandalism.
Congregants arriving on Thursday morning for Shacharis prayers saw that the glass of a large window near the front door of the building had been shattered. A glass window 15 feet behind it inside the building had shattered as well.
Rabbi Chaim Schmukler, director of Chabad of New Mexico, told COLlive.com that police are currently investigating what was used in the attack that caused significant damage to the building.
“The police have been searching the building to find out whether it was a bullet or a rock that was used, however, they have not made that determination yet,” he said.
Rabbi Schmukler says that due to current construction in the building, the security camera was not working at the time, so they do not have footage of the attack.
They are working on obtaining other area footage, which will hopefully shed some light on who the perpetrator is, he said.
It was a bullet hole
May have been? Are you kidding?!
All Shuls and Schools should have polycarbonate ballistic film on any glass windows and doors. Hopefully Rabbis know about this by now.
Also, no functioning cameras is a big mistake.
Congregants, ask your Rabbis what they are doing to ensure your security at Shul. Are there functioning cameras? Film on the windows and doors? Armed congregants who have had training?
Thanks for your well asked for tips and advice! I would like to say that almost every member of Chabad of New Mexico has a gun on them, it happened to be a time when no one was at the Chabad house. And the cameras are almost always functioning, it just happened to be that one period of time it was almost impossible to have functional cameras.
