Rabbi Nachum Goldshmid, a Shliach of Chabad of Netanya – Tzafon in Israel, was picking up his son from kindergarten on Sunday afternoon.
As always, the Shliach carried with his a pair of Tefillin intending to offer passersby to do a Mitzvah should he meet one.
“I then met a young guy riding an electric scooter and called out to him to come put on Tefillin,” Rabbi Goldshmid tells.
The young man rode over to the rabbi. He said his name was Roey Maimon and explained why he can’t accept the offer.
“I don’t know if it was you, but there was a rabbi here a few months ago that offered me to put on Tefillin,” Maimon recalled.
He said that as they were putting on Tefillin that day, the rabbi commented to him, “it’s not OK that at the age of 18 years old you aren’t putting on Tefillin yourself.”
The comment made an impact on Maimon. “As a result of that, I bought my own pair of Tefillin and have been putting them on every single day.”
Hearing this, Rabbi Goldshmid opened his phone and scrolled back in the photos file. He then found a photo he took of Maimon putting on Tefillin exactly 4 months ago. It was Rabbi Goldshmid who met him and made that comment.
Both were extremely moved by the encounter. “Since meeting you 4 months ago, a day didn’t pass that I didn’t put on Tefillin,” he said.
Rabbi Goldshmid blessed him and encouraged Maimon to have a positive influence on his friends as well.
