At the upcoming MUST (Mothers Unite to Stall Technology) event in Miami, a teen who attends Lubavitch Educational Center (LEC) will be addressing parents on why she opted not to get a smartphone, even when most of her peers already have one.
MUST Founder, Mrs. Michal Klerer of Brooklyn, NY, who also addressed the MUST Crown Heights Kickoff event, will also speak. In addition, Rabbi Mendel Toron, MSW, LSW, a South Florida-based psychotherapist who works with students at LEC and Rohr Middle School, will share his understanding of the impact of personal devices on children.
Organizers say they expect hundreds of parents to attend the event and that parents of children in a vast range of schools have already registered. The schools include LEC, Lanaar Elementary School, Child Enrichment Center (The Shul), Yeshiva Toras Chaim Toras Emes (YTCTE), Gan Katan (Elementary), Yeshiva Elementary School (YES), Lubavitch Hebrew Academy, Brauser Maimonides Academy, Scheck Hillel Community School, Torah Academy of Boca Raton and Hebrew Academy (RASG).
This event will take place on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at 7:00 PM at Bais Menachem Chabad of North Miami Beach. Mothers and fathers of children in any Jewish school in South Florida are encouraged to attend. Entry to the event is FREE, but since space is limited, registration is required. Please register by clicking here. Please note that this event will not be live-streamed and requires in-person attendance to participate.
Get with the program
Is that what you’ll answer your kids when they will confront you in 10 years?
Whereas the proud one – you know, the one who kept Yiddishkeit alive and flourishing till our day – is the one who wouldn’t “get with the program.”
For the kids who missed out on learning during the pandemic because their parents didn’t believe in using technology
No one is saying not to use technology at all, just to use it in the proper way and at the appropriate age.
This is AWESOME!
What an independent minded teen this must be!
Unfortunately it became difficult for my son to be without a smart phone as he got older. For banking, paying bills, arranging travel and communicating via whats-app , uber etc..it becomes impossible to function as a young adult without a smart phone.
