It’s interesting that you’re discussing the importance of Yiddish while speaking in English. The truth, though, is that if you were speaking in Yiddish, it’s likely that no one would be listening. I’m not justifying this, but it’s the reality. As for the Shluchim, I truly feel for them. They are often the only frum people in their communities—just like my children and grandchildren—so they have little to no one to speak to other than their parents. That said, it seems to me that the root of the issue is in the schools, such as Oholei Torah, Lubavitch Yeshiva and… Read more »

Very important taana here, we must all take to heart

Focusing on superficial issue

BH
Halevai our deficiency would be language and dress. The focus on shallow is the excuse not to focus on deeper darker issues. The proof is that the other Chssidisher groups that focus and speak and dress in Yiddish have even more darkness.
Es chatoai….should refer to the regret that in ones home they could have more kindness, more selflessness, more truth, more connection, more love and respect…..that’s Yiddish

I hear more English now in Boro Park
February 23, 2025 4:47 pm

A generation ago, people in Boro Park spoke heavily in Yiddish.
Now – No! Yiddish did not disappear; far from it -, but there is
more English spoken by the new generation of Chassidishe people
than before.

Teaching Yiddish to our children

It’s not possible to naturally immerse children in the language when so few Lubavitcher adults truly speak it fluently, without relapsing to English mid sentence. My dream is that at least it should be taught in school as a subject.

We need yiddish immersion

If Ukraine can shut of Russian we can shut off English

we want Yiddish

The Rebbe only spoke in yiddish. I think he would be very proud if he’s Chassidim would carry on that mesorah.
Also, kind reminder – the Jewish pepole left Egypt BECAUSE they didn’t change their names, LANGUAGE and DRESS CODE!

Lets be tznius and converse in yidish!

Perhaps if we stick to those things we can be redeemed!

Harder to shut-off English

Of course Yiddish should be preserved! It’s a
mesorah worth maintaining. Btw, was it Yiddish or
Loshon Kodesh that we spoke in Mitzrayim?

However, you do not want to shut English.
It is now the international language, So,
if you want to do business overseas, very likely,
English will come in handy.

Have you noticed that on flights from the States to
Europe, the pilot speaks in the language of the
country of destination, then in English?

Yiddish

Even if they spoke in Lashon Hakodesh – the point was that they didnt change their language and didnt adopt to the goyim language.
So too, we’re in Golus and we shouldnt adopt to english- comes from the goyim.
Obviously, only speaking in yiddish sadly is not realistic. but its very sad that most of crown heights children dont even know yiddish. Yoddish is our identity, our jewish pride, our mesorah. its very sad that its getting lost. Parents and schools should PLEASE start being more careful in talking in yiddish!
