I’m not flying to the Kinus this year, but I’ll still be going the distance.
Chabad Shluchos would have been traveling this month to New York for the annual International Kinus Hashluchim. When the convention taking place virtually due to the Covid pandemic, many are donating their would-be airfare to a worthy cause.
The cause? a first of its kind campaign raising funds to build unique Mikvaos for seven sisters Shluchos living in different remote locations and communities who currently don’t have one nearby.
“I feel strongly about this Mikvah campaign, and I am so happy to be a part of this,” says Chani Zirkind of Montreal, Canada. “By giving the amount I would have spent on travel expenses to the Kinus, I know this money will have an everlasting effect.”
She’s not the only one.
Shluchos from across the world have taken the current circumstance of a stay-at-home Kinus as a unique opportunity to show up for their colleagues.
For years, Shluchos in remote cities (and community members brave enough to take on the Mitzvah,) have had to make long treks by plane, train, or car to access a Mikvah. Road tripping with the family, bringing along a baby on a flight, or driving hours in deep snow and pouring rain, are far from the ideal conditions for a stress-free Mikvah experience.
The “Bring Mikvah Home” campaign is changing that. Seven Chabad centers located across North America joined forces to raise the necessary funds and build Mikvaos to service each of their remote cities. The Bring Mikvah Home campaign will ensure that Shluchos and the Jewish women in their communities have the chance to partake in our most sacred Mitzvah – no matter where they live.
The following Shluchos are calling on others to join: Mrs. Chani Goldman – Gainsville, Florida; Mrs. Nechama Goldman – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Goldie Plotkin – Markham, Ontario; Mrs. Sarale Henig – Chengdu, China; Mrs. Mimi Wilhelm – Portland, Oregon; and Mrs. Rachel Druk – Cancun Mexico.

Rabbi Shlomo Cunin, head Shliach to the state of California, noted in his message to the others, “The Rebbe teaches us that we must reach out to Jews wherever they may be, even in the most remote corners of the world”.
These 7 shluchos might live miles away, but their mission remains close to our hearts. They share a dream of having a Mikvah close to home and together, we can make that happen!
