Zohran Mamdani’s recent election victory sent shockwaves across New York and the United States. Supporters on the far left have declared this “just the beginning,” vowing to primary every moderate Democrat in New York State from the Governor to Congress, and from the State Senate to the Assembly and City Council.
This is not politics as usual. This is a coordinated effort to reshape New York (and the whole United States), and it’s already happening. It is actually quite scary.
This development raises serious concerns for the Jewish community and for New Yorkers more broadly. It is now clearer than ever: every member of Anash must be registered to vote in order to protect our values, interests, and way of life. This is a loud and buzzing wakeup call.
Although the general election for Mayor is in November, this is not about one race or one candidate. This is about the future of New York and the future of our community, Crown Heights. The political decisions made today will define our schools, our safety, our religious rights, and our community life for years to come.
To better understand where we are falling short, the Jewish Future Alliance (JFA) analyzed the registration status and voting patterns of Anash by age group, including Democrats, Republicans, and unaffiliated voters. To ensure accuracy, they included only individuals who have voted at least once since 2020, excluding the most recent mayoral primary, as the voter file for that election is not yet available.
“The results are both encouraging and alarming,” said Yaacov Behrman, of the Jewish Future Alliance in a statement to COLlive.
“Voter turnout is quite strong among those who are registered, and we’ve seen a huge surge in registration over the last few years, but thousands of eligible voters in our community are still not registered to vote. That’s a major weak spot.”
Behrman pointed to the 18 to 20 age group as a clear example. “Only 380 voters are registered from ages 18 to 20. Yet based on the size of local eighth-grade classes from five and six years ago, around 400 students per grade, we should have closer to 1,200 registered voters in that bracket alone.”
“While registration improves among people in their 20s and 30s, it drops off significantly in the 40s and 50s. That could partly be explained by the fact that younger generations now make up a larger share of the community, but even so, the numbers don’t make sense. We’re clearly missing a lot of people, ” said Behrman.
Want to Help?
The JFA has compiled detailed lists of registered voters across the community sorted by age, blocks, and other filters. These lists are being used to organize a targeted, peer-to-peer outreach campaign, making it easier for volunteers to connect with unregistered voters in their own circles.
If you’d like to volunteer, we’ll provide a customized list so you can reach out to classmates, friends, or neighbors who may not be registered yet. Whether you reach out to a few friends or take on a bigger role, JFA will give you the tools and support you need.
“I am excited to lead this effort,” said Yossi Hershkop.
“Whether it’s registering yourself, helping a friend register, or volunteering for outreach, we need everyone involved.. Reach out to me with your questions or concerns. Let’s get it done.”
This Is the Moment
We’ve never needed community-wide action more urgently than we do right now. The momentum on the far left is real—and unless we show up in full force, they will continue to shape the future without us.
This is about showing up. For your community. For your future. For your voice.

And register people. It’s a simple idea. Have a stand with pads, and register people. Do that for two weeks, and you will have registered hundreds of new voters. You can also make stands outside supermarkets.
I don’t live in crown heights, but this seems to be a good idea.
I understand people are very scared about Zohran’s likely win
Please move away and sell your houses.
New York doesn’t need you.
To yuhuptsville? We are the rebbe schuna
Our community spent decades building our institutions and business’ here.
How dare you tell us to surrender and abandon all that we built to a communist/jihadist.
He needs to fail.
We need to get our act together and start voting for our interests.
His math may be very off, he writes “ Behrman pointed to the 18 to 20 age group as a clear example. “Only 380 voters are registered from ages 18 to 20. Yet based on the size of local eighth-grade classes from five and six years ago, around 400 students per grade, we should have closer to 1,200 registered voters in that bracket alone.””
How many of these people still live here?
They are likely still registered at their parents address and can vote absentee. Most 19 year olds don’t change their state residence for a year of shlichus.
Also, there are a lot of post sem girls who do become residents because of health insurance. They should vote
Absolutely, they should register, if they haven’t, and then Vote! They will ultimately want a home here in Crown Heights to come back to, won’t they?
1.You The CC Useless local but kissers push bad candidates bad choices When it’s the worst of the worst with change only for the worse why bother to vote. The real results you wish to hide? Higher rent higher food prices less housing choices illegal harassment by yourself to nag people to vote for who you want despite the bad history the lies and being unqualified candidate for dog catcher never mind For Mayor!
I don’t think I missed an election in the last 30 years. I voted every single time.
But — I’m fed up. Our leaders and elected officials only talk to us before an election.
When our candidate gets elected what do they do for us?
We have so many problems and no one can help us?
Attack on education
Crime
Bike lanes
Bikes
I’m serious considering to stop voting.
If you really think things are not so good even though you voted, ‘you ain’t seen nothing yet’, if you decide to do otherwise!
Need to go to the schools yehivahs and speak with the hanhala to make sure that their students are all registered. this should be done throuhout nyc we could have another 100.000 votes and save nyc from this antisemite
B”H
Have you ever heard the expression:
“Cutting off your nose to spite your own face.”
You’re just hurting yourself in the process.
Unfortunately there’s a lot of confusion when it comes to voting, as people are genuinely confused who to vote for. My daughter is 25 and she said that she can’t handle voting for any guy that seems corrupt. So she is simply not voting for anyone.
So she is simply not voting.
Eric made some mistakes but they were not life altering like Govornor Cuomo did with the Seniors. Meanwhile crime has gone down and quality of life is improving under Adams/
I happen to be on the Adams campaign and there is growing momentum. You will see this getting more traction every day but Cuomo right now is going no where. Do your reseach.
To be continued
That crowd has been going after him for not doing things their way, and for being an oheiv yisrael. The political movement, innocently calling themselves “Working Families” has been busy fighting him any way they can. They are trying to destroy NY and the whole U.S. from within and are virulently anti Semitic.
Because by Not voting, it effectively is the same as a vote for the ‘Great Rasha’!
Hes not corrupt
Instead of doing fast davening maybe daven like a mensch not using the phone or talking shul as the Rebbe Says from the first Kaddish to the last Kaddish one is forbidden to speak during davening!
I have an idea. Its is IMPERATIVE to walk into every Yeshiva in Crown Heights that has a ZAL and sign up all the bachurim. My sons are registered to vote because that is what Mendy Raitport AH did when they were in OT zal. This election is pikuach nefesh.I hope you consider this idea.
This should be required of school yeshiva registrations all over the City it is not business as usuall. We ALL must do our part to turn this election around and this does not take much time. We are now in a SOC Mode…Save Our City.Every person must do their part!
I hope so too!
i am an Active Voter and i think its time to give the people a reason to vote why has the Local Community not heard from the Community Counsel in Months When people feel like there is a Community and a center that cares and caters to them its very easy to organize a voting base Get the ear of the people Imagine if we had a Center where people could get basic needs taken care Help applying for benefits organizing community events Hep with applying for permits youth & Senior services Education & Awareness Infrastructure & Maintenance Oversight it… Read more »
I hear your frustration but one does not have to do with the other. So you are ready to throw in the towel? Lets do our part. Lets take care of the five things that WE can DO. If nothing else, Im sure this falls under the category of Ahavas Yisrael. By voting, even if you dont care , you are helping your fellow yidden from an anti semite and his prutzah wife.
One is given the opportunity to vote. Use it.
The community leaders have an obligation to inform their community:
1) about the choices;
2) whom they recommend
3) why they recommend the person
4) what the consequences can be if they don’t vote.
For this past election I’m guessing a lot of people went upstate already? Could they have voted earlier before they left?
As much as its important to vote –
What we need to understand is that לב מלכים ושרים ביד השם
We are doing our part,
And as rabbonei hashchuna have said that its important to vote,
Yet in the same time,
Its important not to lose focus –
And dont put our hopes in a בשר ודם
Whomever the rebbe wants to win will win
The rebbe used to vote by mail.
Exactly.
Don’t go to work either. As much money as the Rebbe wants you to have you’ll have!!
The Rebbe Voted…
“Vote for the best person.” Knowimg the Positivity Bias, it would apply to the one who in our finite eyes is the least worst.
We really don’t like Cuomo.
He treated us very badly during Covid.
Eric Adams at least has good intentions and tried to stand up for the people against illegal aliens, no cash bail, etc…
We are tired of being told what to do instead of being heard and listened to about what we need and want.
Learn from Guiliani, he had a radio show where he took the time to ask the residents about what they need and want and did his utmost to serve the people.
People need a good reason what to vote for.
Not enough motivation to go vote against.
If Cuomo drops out of the race there will be a fighting chance that the mamzer mamdani will lose. Otherwise he is just the vote splitter and we still really don’t like him.
I wish Curtis Silwa would win
He is the guy who will actually fight for us and the needs of our working class black neighbors.
But unfortunately a lost cause.
Don’t dismiss him.
Dont judge by the primary election. Only democrats voted. Only 13% voted
How many residents might be learning, etc. in other places who are eligible to vote but don’t know how.
My union is supporting him I guess I must do what’s best for the union and me
Is he for or against the bike lines
I was among the Reaganites who had only condemnation for the (public school) teachers’ union. (Vouchers, their antipathy to Yeshivas). But in a Hakhel Farbrengen, the Rebbe called for unification, specifilly supporting the Teachers Union. Then it hit me. That union and its members do G-d’s work and it is THE “LEADERSHIP” OF that union that undermines its members by selling them out to the atheists and commy demoncrats for.gelt. Ergo, you are released from the dictat of your union bosses and should support Sliwa. This would help dedicated teachers to teach.
