In 1976 a group of injured IDF soldiers asked to meet with the Rebbe. The Rebbe met with them, said a special Sicha just to them in Hebrew and afterwards went over to each one individually to shake their hand and exchange a few words with them.
There are many stories of the life changing impact these short encounters had on the soldiers.
In this video, Mr. Yosef Lautenberg, one of the founders of the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization, describes how it happened along with some clips of the actual meeting.

Whenever I see a video like this, it reminds me why I am Chabad, and it fills me with great pride to be a Lubavitcher. There are times when I look at the Lubavitch community now and I get upset and ashamed at its predicament, but the knowledge that the proper path of chassidei chabad is following the direction of this hold and special man removes all doubt and shame. One can really feel the love the Rebbe had for these soldiers. – Thank you for this video. It has inspired me greatly.
Yet another thing. For us to learn and apply to day to day life

There were a number of bachurim that were watching from the viber shule, after creating the handicapped ramps so they would be able to get downstairs. It was an amazing sicha and the kiruv the Rebbe gave them was incredible!
A great lesson for each of us!
