Throughout the years, many people from diverse backgrounds turned to the Rebbe for advice on various issues. The Rebbe’s letters guided these individuals and provided them with insight, direction, clarity in their life decisions, and the ability to overcome their challenges. Whether College student or Professor, Businessman or Rabbi, the Rebbe addressed each individual on his or her level, writing in a style relatable to them.
With the printing of Igros Kodesh, the Rebbe’s letters became available for us all to learn and internalize, making the Rebbe’s perspective on a broad and diverse range of topics accessible to us at our fingertips.
Yet, unbeknownst to many, there is an entire genre of the Rebbe’s letters, numbering in the tens of thousands, which for the most part are inaccessible and unknown to the general public.
The letters at hand are the letters written by the Rebbe in English, which, for the most part, were never properly published or organized.
In addition to bridging the language barrier for many seeking to learn the Rebbe’s view, these letters are truly a unique treasure in many areas.
Written to an audience not well versed in the Hebrew language, many of these letters address topics of a scope rarely found in the Rebbe’s Hebrew Igros, as well as being written in a style relatable to individuals less knowledgeable or affiliated in Judaism.
The letter presented below, published here for the first time, is but a drop in the vast sea of these letters, a small gem in an archive of thousands of English letters, soon to be made available to the public.

In 5739 a young girl wrote a letter to the Rebbe. In her letter the child asks the Rebbe several questions about G-d which were troubling her young mind.
In the Rebbe’s answer, published here for the first time, we see the Rebbe’s patience and care to reply to this young girl, answering her questions in a simple yet profound way understandable even to the pure and simple understanding of a child.

By the Grace of G-d
Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, 5739
Brooklyn, N. Y.
Blessing and Greeting:
I received your note with several questions about HaShem
I will answer you with a simple illustration: If you walk in the street and see a skyscraper, you know that someone made that skyscraper with all its floors, walls, windows, and so on. In the same, but even more certainly, when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, and when you look around and see trees and flowers and birds and all other wonderful creatures, and people, you know that HaShem created them all.
Now, when a human being wants to make anything, he needs materials and tools, and very often he needs helpers. But HaShem is not like a human being; He created and made everything by simply saying, “Let there be!” And so, by the word of HaShem the heavens and the earth were made, and all that is in the whole wide world. Of course, HaShem is only one; He needs no helpers.
As for your other question, if it is possible to talk to HaShem, you surely know that we do it every day when we pray to G-d and/or make a blessing, such as the blessing “Shehakol”: “Blessed are You, G-d, our G-d, King of the Universe, by whose word everything came to be.” And when we say, “Blessed are You,” we clearly speak directly to G-d.
I trust you are learning HaShem’s Torah and doing His Mitzvos, and generally conducting yourself as HaShem wants every Jewish girl to conduct herself, being a daughter of Sarah, Rivkah, Rachel and Leah, the Mothers of our Jewish people. And although this is a must in any case, it is also the way to receive and enjoy HaShem’s blessings for yourself, your dear parents and for all our Jewish people.
With blessing
M. Schneerson
