My name is Dov Chazanow, I’m 15 and in shiur Beis of Mesivta, and I wanted to share something I’ve experienced as a Mesivta bochur.
When I first started my journey in yeshiva, like many bochurim, I was inspired by the idea of “Learning how to learn” We all wanted to be able to open a Gemara or a sicha and really understand it on our own. But the truth is, it wasn’t so simple. The language barrier made it hard, and even though I was told things like “just keep learning and you’ll get it” or “go over it a few times and it’ll click,” it didn’t really work for me.
That all changed this year, 5786, when I started learning in Tzeirei Hashluchim. The Shluchim here launched a new mivtza called “Yesodos” (“יסודות” – Basics), and it completely changed the way I look at learning.
It’s not just another program that adds more material. “Yesodos” focuses on how we learn. Through clear, beautifully designed booklets, me and my friends are guided step-by-step on how to read, translate, and understand both Gemara and Sichos. It’s helped us build real learning skills and given us the confidence to learn on our own.
What I love most is that the Shluchim don’t just sit and gives us the meaning of the piece, they empower us to learn by ourselves and work for it. Each of us learns with a chavrusa, and together we figure things out. I remember on the second day of the mivtza, my chavrusa and I had just finished understanding a piece of a sicha on our own, We looked at each other and said, “This is actually exciting. We look forward to Seder now.”
Since then, I’ve noticed a real change in the yeshiva. The atmosphere feels different. There’s more energy, more motivation, and a genuine excitement for learning.
Right now, the Shluchim are running a fundraiser to help grow and continue this amazing project. It even includes an overseas trip for the participants something we’re all really looking forward to.
And it’s not just about learning. They’re also preparing for a huge Chanukah Mivtzoim campaign, visiting multiple army bases every night to bring soldiers menorahs, donuts, BBQ, and most importantly, the light and joy of Yiddishkeit.
Please help them keep this going to strengthen our learning and to bring joy to the soldiers who protect us. Every bit of support makes a difference.
