Moshe Karasik, a young Lubavitcher, went this past Friday on Mivtzoim in New York City to offer Jewish men to put on Tefillin as many Chassidim and bochurim do.
When he asked one passerby the famous question “Are you Jewish?”, he received a most enthusiastic response.
The man said that he has just been in the company of a group of Chassidim on a chartered El Al Dreamliner 787 which flew from Almaty, Kazakhstan to New York’s JFK International Airport on Thursday.
He said that he was one of the flight attendants on the flight which returned Chassidim from commemorating the yahrzeit of Harav Levi Yitzchok Schneerson OBM, the father of the Rebbe, on Chof Av.
“He said that the flight has done something to him,” Karasik said. “The joy of the Lubavitchers was special and that is why he agreed to put on Tefillin after so many years of him not doing so.”
The flight attendant had spent much time on the flight speaking with Levi Goldstein, a businessman from Crown Heights, who had made an impression on him, he said.
Karasik said that the flight attendant commented that he already visited Lubavitch Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights and that he planned on also visiting the Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens.
