Last week, the Bochurim of Yeshivas Achei Tmimim, Chovevei Torah, delved deep into many topics related to self-improvement and wellbeing, focusing on spiritual, emotional, and physical development. The “Wellness Week” program included many workshops and experiential sessions, many facilitated by the Hanhola of the Yeshiva itself.
The various guest speakers and professionals also addressed many relevant topics. The guest speakers comprised a wide variety of experts in various fields. Shlomo Rappoport LMSW, CASAC-T – a therapist specializing in behavioral and substance use issues and addictions – addressed topics related to addictions, new age challenges, and how to remain safe while avoiding guilt and shame.
Shmuel Balisok, Exercise Science Specialist, CSCS-Certified, Student Physical Therapist, educated the bochurim about healthy ways to exercise, stretch, and how to properly prioritize intentions when working out. Ben Shannon, LMSW, educated the bochurim regarding the neurological and addictive impact of alcohol and various other substances, as well as empowered the bochurim with the best strategies regarding how to navigate these sensitive issues. Rabbi Mendel Kleinman, LMSW, led the bochurim through an inspirational and growth-oriented Kumzitz, helping them narrow their attention to seven specific areas of personal growth and habits that they could use to enhance their lifestyle and wellbeing. Rabbi Yehoshua Werde and Zev Gajer of CHYE discussed the topic of healthy ways to enter into the work-force, while focusing on the principles of Yiddishkeit and Chassidus.
The week came to a close with an honest and educational Q&A panel, led by principal Rabbi Menachem Forer. The panelists consisted of the Yeshiva’s Haholah: Rabbi Levi Tzukernik (Menahel) Rabbi Dovid Losh (Madrich Ruchni and Yeshiva visionary) and Rabbi Shmuly Kesselman MHC-LP. This session provided the Bochurim with a platform to address all their questions, leading to engaging conversations that further enhanced their understanding of themselves and their challenges. Truly an amazing opportunity for the Bochurim to develop their character, gain valuable insights, and grow as individuals.
The week concluded with a beautiful Shabbaton in Monsey, NY, where the Bochurim and Hanholah spent a Shabbos connecting and Farbrenging while working to integrate the lessons they learned and connect with each other.
