Weekly Rebbe Photo
The Avner Institute presents a weekly first time released photo of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. This one was taken in the winter of 1963 during prayer in the small zal (synagogue) in 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, NY. The Rebbe's Chief of Staff Rabbi Mordechai Hodakov is seen on the right. Until Mem Ches (1988) the Rebbe would daven Mincha and Maariv in the upstairs small Shul. The Rebbe would walk in with his gartel and Sidur in his hand, and as he came into the Shul he would put the Siddur on the Table and put on his gartel. Rabbi Hodakov (the Rebbe’s personal secretary), use to daven in proximity to the Rebbe, by the wall right under the clock. In this picture you cannot see the clock (so I cant tell if its Mincha or Maariv) but you can see the plug, and the clock is right above it.… Read more »
The Rebbe enters for Mincha or Maariv in the “small Zal”. Rabbi Chadakov then closes the door, while the Rebbe holds his gartel in hand, in order to don it.
