Career advisers will talk about “keeping up with changing markets”, and “meeting the needs of developing industries.”
In other words, if you want to keep your job, you might have some work to do.
In the office, that could mean learning a new computer program or taking a course in a new field. In a school setting, that means learning new methods and adjusting the curriculum. In the home, that means that your baby seems to have grown up overnight and everything you knew about parenting is no longer viable. Welcome to the tween years. WHAT?!?
Let’s back up a bit.
The clinical name is preadolescent, but preteen, preteenager and most recently “tween” (first use: 1967) are good options as well. As to what a tween is, the definition may be a little vague. Some say that it applies to children between the ages of 10-13, others give the broader scope or 9-14, but either way you look at it, it has less to do with a physiological age, and more to do with developmental level. If you’re the parent, you’ll probably notice when that starts happening. To use the moshol of the changing industry, you have your work cut out for you.
Luckily, Junior N’shei is there to make the transition a little smoother for everybody.
