They called it “The Great Wedding.”
Rumor has it that it was dubbed so by the father of the kallah, known Chabad activist Rabbi Mendel Duchman, overly ecstatic on the occasion of marrying off the last of a consecutive line of daughters.
Lag BaOmer has an extra significance in the family as his wife Rochel Duchman is the daughter of the legendary Rabbi JJ Hecht OBM, Chairman of the NCFJE organization who had the merit of emceeing the parades with the Rebbe at 770 Eastern Parkway.
During the wedding meal in the banquet hall, attended by many Shluchim and members of the Los Angeles Chabad community, a special video of one of those Lag BaOmer parades was shown.
In fact, following the chupah, the chosson and kallah led the guests in a “parade” while riding a chariot and white horse, a band drumming on the sidelines and a mini train carrying the children.
The logo of the wedding was a twist on the logo made for the Great Parade two years ago in Crown Heights. And like that event, Jewish music superstar Lipa Schmeltzer was there as well (with Yoni Zigelboum).

The way MD spoke about the lubavitcher Rebbe- …….and the role the Rebbe plays in his family life.
It was amazing to see…there were lubavitchers,litvish, yeshivish, roshey yeshivas,shluchim, rabonim, modern and fry peapole- all to be part of the simcha that the duchmans give to others- what a kiddush lubavitch it was!!

Rabbi Michael Katz uncle of the chossen presented a dollar of the Rebbe to the chossen and kallah. This dollar was given to the grandfather of the chossen R’ Shabsy katz a”h by the grandfather of the kallah r’ yisrael duchman (whom the kallah is named after), on his visit to South Africa. This dollar was not found until this Pesach!!!
