It started like any other Friday.
I woke up to my alarm ringing. Modeh Ani, Negel Vasser, Brachos. The kids were running around, and somehow I broke up their fights, made them change into their white shirts, and shipped them off to school. I quickly made coffee, checked my messages, and by 9:00 AM, I was already in the middle of my usual rush—work, errands, and all those last-minute things that simply couldn’t wait.
By noon, I was starting to prepare for Shabbos. While taking a quick break to scroll through my chats, I saw a Rebbe video and it reminded me that it was Yud Tes Kislev. I thought about the Alter Rebbe for a moment, glanced at the day’s Tanya, and quickly moved on with my day.
I set the table for Shabbos, prepared the meals, and as I worked, I decided to maybe just put on a Chassidus podcast, but I was too distracted to properly listen to what was being said.
The hours passed in a whirlwind of activity. When I finally bentched licht and collapsed on the couch, I was beyond too tired to do any learning or discussing or even thinking.
Yud Tes Kislev had slipped by in the Friday rush.
How can I make sure that this doesn’t happen to me? What can I do to ensure that my Yud Tes Kislev is different from any other day on the calendar?
I’m going to prepare.
Join me at “Strength for the Soul,” a three-day Tanya summit preparing for Yud Tes Kislev.
With six short and engaging classes, we’ll explore the transformative teachings of Tanya in a way that’ll last.
