From the men’s summer evening learning program in Crown Heights, offering Chavrusa learning and a Shiur, followed by dinner.
The program, which will continue throughout the summer, takes place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the New Beis Medrash, 580 Crown Street, 8:00 – 9:30 pm.
if the mosdos are so concerned about secular studies why don’t they teach in Yiddish like the Rebbe wanted?
While students are learning some math and geography in lemudi kodesh it is a far leap to say that it is substantially equivalent to a full secular education.
The law requires only instruction substantially equivalent to public schools in the same district as the private school. The public schools near the yeshivas are abysmal, their education is a complete disaster. The Yeshiva’s education is significantly superior to any public schools in the neighborhood.
If accepting state guidelines means they will give us more funding they can teach my kids whatever they want.
No amount of secular studies can be more detrimental to a frum family than the tuition induced stress.
Part of secular studies, as shown in England, is to teach children that alternative lifestyle is normal, that evolution is accepted etc. Secular education doesn’t end with just Reading Ritting and Rithmetic. Secular is anti-religion and anti-religious values.
Public schools receive, on average, about $24,000, per child in New York City. There is no way they are going to give anything even close to that to yeshivas.
This is totally true
…why are you bothering to send your kids to a frum school in the first place? Just send them to public school, where “they can teach [your] kids whatever they want,” and leave the rest of us out of it.
Thank you Rabbi Lustig for sharing!! Well done
Lots to learn from and take in to account
