The newest episode of Torah Unboxed from JNet explores Sefer Tehillim. It looks at the life of King David, the enduring relevance of the Seder, and the many Tehillim editions available today, helping viewers choose one that speaks to them.
For many just starting their Torah learning journey, opening a Torah Sefer can feel overwhelming. With countless editions and commentaries to choose from, it’s not always clear where to begin. “Torah Unboxed” was created to change that. Produced by JNet, the Jewish Learning Network at Merkos 302, and hosted by Rabbi Mendel Winner, Rabbi at the Chabad Neshama Center in Brighton Beach, NY, the series aims to make the study of classic Jewish texts approachable, relevant, and inspiring for every Jew, especially those new to learning.
Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, Executive Director of Merkos 302, says the project reflects JNet’s mission to make Torah study accessible to every Jew. “Jews around the world are searching for their Jewish connection. Many are aware of their Jewish identity but don’t know where to start.”
Throughout Jewish history, Tehillim has been the faithful companion of the Jewish people in times of joy and sorrow. In moments of crisis and gratitude alike, generations have turned to these sacred Pesukim for Tefillah, comfort, and strength.
As the Rebbe writes in Hayom Yom, quoting the Tzemach Tzedek: “If you only knew the power of reciting Tehillim and their effect in the highest Heavens, you would recite them constantly.”
“With the uncertainty and turmoil in the world today, the recital of Tehillim is more vital than ever,” says Rabbi Mendel Groner, Director of JNet at Merkos 302. “Through this series and others, we hope to inspire Yidden everywhere to open a Sefer they connect with and experience the comfort and power of Torah.”
JNet pairs volunteers who have benefited from a Jewish education with individuals seeking to explore their heritage and texts more deeply. Each partnership offers a one-on-one learning experience tailored to the learner’s interests and background. For the mentor, it’s an opportunity to share Torah and make a lasting impact—one conversation at a time.
