This Shabbos will mark the 80th yartzeit of Harav Levi Yitzchok Schneerson OBM, the father of the Rebbe and a fearless and dedicated rov even during the Communist regime.
One of the earliest initiatives to commemorate his yartzeit of Chof Av has been the Global Yarchei Kallah, which is held each year at Camp Gan Israel in Parksville, New York.
It brings together leading rabbonim, roshei yeshiva, and mashpiim from around the world for a couple of days of intense learning and discussions.
The Rebbe deeply cherished the gatherings and specifically encouraged Chassidim to participate in the Melave Malka of the Yarchei Kallah which is held on Motzoei Shabbos.
In the words of the Rebbe, learning Torah in merit of his father was considered part of his fulfillment of the Mitzvah of Kibud Av Va’em. “This is my inyan,” he once commented to a participant.
Organizing the Yarchei Kallah each year is Rabbi Avraham Shemtov, Chairman of Agudas Chassidei Chabad International and Head Shliach of Philadelphia and Washington, DC.
This year, he once again extended invitations to rabbonim to participate. But notably missing will be rabbonim from Israel, who are prevented from traveling because of the ongoing war and conflict between Israel and its blood-thirsty neighbors.
Ever since the terror-supporting Republic of Iran threatened to attack Israel once again, all major airlines canceled their flights to the Ben Gurion Airport in Lod.
El Al Airlines is the only airline currently operating direct flights to New York. “This spiked the prices and availability, making it practically impossible to travel back and forth,” says travel agent Yossi Cohen.
Cohen, who is booking flights for the Yarchei Kallah, was hopeful that one or two rabbonim from Israel would still be able to make it.
This year’s attendees will come from across the United States, England, France, Belgium, Argentina, Brazil, and even Venezuela.
Their learning will also be dedicated to the safety and security of the Holy Land and its people.
The Yarchei Kallah will culminate in the Melave Malka this Motzoei Shabbos Parshas Ekev, 10:30 PM at Camp Gan Israel – 487 Parksville Rd, Parksville, NY 12768. A special memento will be given to all participants.
