Volunteers Aim for $1 Million

As always, The Shluchim Office on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, NY, is buzzing with activity. But today, the dedicated staff that work in support of the Shluchim around the world are being joined by volunteers.

Very young volunteers, we should add.

Lubavitch boys and girls came to the office building to help promote the Charidy crowd-funding campaign for the Nigri International Shluchim Online School which educates some 900 children of Shluchim in remote locations.

“I grew up on Shlichus,” commented Rivky, a volunteer from Florida, “and my only friends were from the Online School, so this is something very important to me.”

Rivky and friends of all ages are making phone calls, inviting Lubavitchers and friends of Chabad to participate in the campaign to raise 1 million dollars within 24 hours that began on Tuesday 12noon.

As you walk around the floors of the Shluchim Office, you can hear voices spilling out of every room as volunteers of all ages dial the number of every member of Anash. Excited voices are heard from every corner.

“My sister is on Shlichus,” Chani from Crown Heights says, “and when I visited her I saw how valuable this was to her family. This is the best way to spend one of my first days of vacation.”

A group of generous and dedicated philanthropists are backing the unique challenge to raise $1 million towards the programs we offer to the children of Shluchim. Every dollar that is donated is quadrupled.

Rabbi Gedalya Shemtov, Executive Director of The Shluchim Office which was founded by the Rebbe himself, said: “I would really like to thank the members of Crown Heights community for coming out and volunteering for this campaign. It’s beautiful to see the community support.”

Volunteers are streaming in and out of the Shluchim Office, and everyone is keeping a half an eye on the screen with the Charidy campaign. The bell rings. Pizza has arrived for the volunteers. Of course, the sushi isn’t that bad either.
