The last episode of the weekly video magazine Living Torah, screened this past Motzoei Shabbos at Chabad synagogues and camps around the world, included a relevant segment for the summer season.
Seen on the clip was the Rebbe standing outside his room at Lubavitch Headquarters – 770 Eastern Parkway on 18 Tammuz 5751 (June 30, 1991) and handing out dollars for charity and blessings.
Passing by was Mrs. Rochel Lipskar who reported that she was the nurse at the overnight Camp Gan Israel for boys in Parksville, NY. The Rebbe gave her an extra dollar and said, “You should see to it that there are no patients.”
Then came Rebbetzin Chave Hecht, the longtime Chabad-Lubavitch emissary who co-founded Camp Emunah, a Jewish summer camp for girls, in Greenfield Park, NY, with her late husband, Rabbi JJ Hecht OBM.
She introduces a group of counselors to which the Rebbe gives each a crisp dollar, but then the Rebbe interrupts the line and turns to Rebbetzin Hecht with an unexpected question.
“How was the Telethon?” the Rebbe inquired. “The fundraising telethon; did everything go well?”
“Thank G-d,” she answers.
“We always thank G-d, but did you raise some money?” the Rebbe asks.
“We have pledges but I don’t know whether they’ll come through,” she explains.
The Rebbe then says, “More than you expect will probably come in.”
Watching this exchange this past week, several generous Chabad benefactors were motivated by this blessing and contacted the office of Camp Emunah offering their support.
In consultation with Rebbetzin Hecht, it was decided that they will contribute to 10 scholarships for the camp’s second trip which begins on Tuesday, July 21, 2015.
Those living in Crown Heights and need scholarship assistance, can take advantage of this new generous scholarship and call 845-647-8742 or apply online at campemunah.org.

wow nice so cool
Rochel Gordon, dini Sabol sufrin, tobi Harling baron, Rivkie metal Ives, devorie wilschansky reicher. Can’t remember the others
The best part is that the Rebbe looks back up at the woman standing in front of him and gives her his attention again, not allowing her to be lost due to his questioning of someone else.
The Hechts have always worked hard to make attending Camp Emuna accessible for all. I know of no other camp that is so generous with scholarships. I wish them great success.
Rabbi JJ and Rebbitzin Chava Hecht took Lubavich girls summer camps to a new era! Thanks to them we now how a whole network of Lubavich Girls Summer Camps!
Thank you Rebbitzin Hecht for opening a door for us and our daughters! The Rebbes Brocha should continue to be fulfilled each day!
A true role model for all Jewish women 🙂
