US Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, met with Chabad Shluchim to Reykjavik, Iceland, during their stop in the Nordic island nation on Wednesday.
Rabbi Avi and Mushki Feldman, who established Chabad of Iceland last year, were in attendance at a reception for the Vice President and his wife at the Naval Air Station Keflavik in Reykjavik.
In a warm conversation with the Shluchim, the Vice President expressed great support and friendship to the Jewish community in Reykjavik and around the world.
US Ambassador to Iceland, Jeffrey Ross Gunter, also praised the work of the Shluchim there.
Pence was on his way back from Poland where he participated in the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the start of the Second World War and its many victims, including the 3 million Polish Jews.
Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir was set to meet with Vice President Pence on Wednesday, her government said, despite earlier reports that she would miss the visit.
Their meeting will focus on national security, according to media reports. VP Pence is expected to bring up “incursions” into the Arctic Circle by China and Russia amid growing tensions in the polar region over melting ice and access to minerals, a White House official has said.
