Some 1,000 people gathered at Chabad of the Valley’s headquarters in
Tarzana, California Tuesday night to observe and commemorate Gimmel
Tammuz, the 16th Yahrzeit Hilulah of the Rebbe.
There were groups from many of the outlying Chabad House communities who participated with their respective Shluchim.
The evening was generously sponsored by Gary and Rochelle Finder and family and, as always, a full dinner was served to all.
A short inspirational talk was given by Rabbi Yehoshua B. Gordon, Executive Director of Chabad of the Valley. A very moving JEM video was shown about the Rebbe and his constant concern for Eretz Yisroel.
The evening was emceed by Rabbi Mordechai Einbinder, Associate Director of the organization who also introduced the guest speaker, Rabbi Levi Garelik – by sharing many personal
experiences, dating back to their time together in Yeshiva.
Rabbi Garelik spoke for nearly an hour, regaling the crowd with his profound thoughts on “after Gimmel-Tammuz,” interspersed with many stories and personal anecdotes about his youth in Italy, his illustrious parents, Rabbi and Rebbitzen Gershon Mendel Garelik and their interaction with the Rebbe. As he spoke, there was recurring applause, laughter and profound emotion. His closing message was a personal story of miraculous survival, encouraging everyone to always move forward with continuous growth and personal enhancement in our commitment to the teachings of the Rebbe.

Moishey said he would be there, but then he had trouble with the Ford. He tried the Metro – no luck. By 11:30 he gave up. I don’t know what to tell him. Should he have called?
