Nachi Gordon, host of the Meaningful People Podcast, wrote the following on X:
Since when did we become so insensitive?
I’ve been seeing people in our community posting their lavish vacations…
And I can’t help but wonder:
Since when did we become insensitive to our fellow Jews in Eretz Yisroel who are at war right now.
Their husbands, sons (and daughters) are protecting our homeland, and are freezing in the North and fighting with blood, sweat and tears in Gaza.
And we, American Jews, are flaunting five-star vacations when our chayalim are sleeping on the floor in Gaza?
Am I saying you shouldn’t go on vacation? No – not at all. Everyone should make decisions for themselves and we all need some time off.
But we can be a little more sensitive to our Jewish brothers and sisters watching along from Israel.
Think before you post.
Thank you for speaking up
I think it’s more dangerous, physically to go on vacation with so much antisemitism then to be in Gaza.
The only difference is that your not in green
Spot on!!
What you wouldnt want someone to do to you, dont do it to someone else. We became so numb, insensitive and detached from one another, it’s so sad. Outwardly we are in full swing helping the chayalim but inwardly so far off.
We should not be going on Vacation! When yidden are Beies Tzara we fast. Asur Btashmish
It’s not the Rebbe’s way for us to be in mourning in that way. We should be adding in Torah and Mivtzos in their zchus. But we don’t fast or mourn. Simcha is always the right answer. Simcha, bitachon and adding in light.
Fasting does not = mourning. Taanis is an increase in Tefila and something Yidden across the board always did.
The point here was about vacationing. Im not sure why its necessary to go on vacation to be Bsimcha nor how going to Cancun increases ones Bitachon.
There is a time and place for everything. and now is the time to be completely there for EY and yes that means less indulgence in Olam Hazeh.
A lot in cancun thats helping my bitachoin now. The chabad is geshmak.
Everyone has different chashbonos and can consilt with their own mashpia or daas torah, people need vacation to regenerate to serve Ahahem, I’ve seen Israelis on vacation too after Oct 7..
We have different rules for aveilos?
How can you tell others what to do!? How do you know G-d’s will for them!? Everyone has to do what’s right for them!
I didn’t want to go on vacation after Oct 7, and I pushed it off till Dec when I was bursting, and I really needed it , not just that, I was able to greive and mourn for EY and the hostages and feel my feelings, you can tell others what’s right for them!
Im against posting on scovial media in general, but Israel needs tourists.
And it is an excellent place to go.
I’m sure many of these vacation goers are donating nicely to the Israel government.
I do believe at this time to flaunt pictures isn’t so proper.
True
The Rebbe Showed us how important it is to be sensitive to others ! It’s an important class to start teaching in schools -we will all gain from learning and practicing it —together with empathy (it’s not the same as sympathy )
Stay safe
Ty for pointing this out
But it’s not a class, it’s an emotion
Are NOT going on five star vacations
They are way too expensive
I think you’re a bit out of touch
But even those that are, or those that are going on a basic get-away, how about just not flaunting your personal life to do many. It’s not the Yiddishe way, war in Eretz Yisroel or not.
B”H I’ve been to beautiful places in the world, top hotels and private flights, never ever I posted on my Whatsapp status (BH not on any other social media) what I’m doing or going.
Enjoy your life.
If you need to show off, you’re not really enjoying life!
Besides going to Israel to strength the soldiers, I didn’t take any vacation since Tishrei.
No reason for that right now.
As what do you say when we are in golus!
If you have the money, Israel is a great place to vacation. The economy is hurting because of the war, but the country is not unsafe. I highly recommend a visit for any purpose. There is good leisure to be had there. The land of Israel is in bloom, and if you haven’t seen Eretz Yisrael in bloom you haven’t seen it. Eilat is also extremely safe, and prettier than the Caribbean. There is no reason to be afraid of rockets: Hamas’ stockpiles are dwindling to almost nothing, and Israel’s Iron Dome has a nearly 100% interception rate, and there… Read more »
Let’s all consider the possibility of joining together in “Gaza” strip of EY in just a few years in the newly built five star hoteland Chabad house singing praise to Hashem for all the miracles.
Especially since there are over 100 Yidden still held in captivity by barbaric terrorists!
Not a time to post pictures of your vacation!
People go on vacations?
Yea normal people
Good man
Why the negative? You were on your way to Florida last week- I saw you in JFK.am Yisroel loves the IDF and would do anything and everything to support them. Let’s remember the fight continues against amalek and we must continue to do our part to help our brothers and sisters in Israel. In general less social media attention seeking posts is always a good thing bit let’s not accuse our holy people of being insensitive. We are the most sensitive caring people. Positive thoughts!
When is it EVER a good time to flaunt excess and personal escapades. You want to have fun, or relax, sure. Why publicize it? There are plenty people who can’t afford it. Same shtech in ponim to them. Publicize constructive things that all can do. Keep private, indulgent things, only some can do.
Absolutely correct
What’s the excitement of a vacation if you can’t flaunt it in the faces of those who can’t afford it.
If everyone is doing it then it becomes cheap and common.
Nothing makes any sense No one can explain why if how We are living parallel all together in different worlds in a bubble Just because we could say things it is only someone’s opinion based on how they are processing dealing with their own life The real reality is out of our reach out of control beyond understanding People are suffering on many levels waking up going tru each day barely surviving their last day while others living life just watching a Broadway Show being entertained and not even knowing how good their enjoyable live is Nothing makes sense anymore… Read more »
By all means go for a break. However donate an equal amount of money to
1. Displaced families
2 soldiers protective gear
3. Etc
Because
HOW CAN YOU TRULY ENJOY YOUR 5*
BREAK KNOWING SOLDIERS ARE RISKING THEIR LIVES FOR YOU. MANY DYING. MANY HAVE BECOME WIDOWS AND ORPHANS PROTECTING OUR LAND. SOLDIERS NEED THE MOST UPDATED EQUIPMENT TO WIN THIS WAR.
You have no right to write about this when your family has a newspaper they flaunt there extravagant vacations and family trips so start by talking to them then you can publish for everyone else you are just trying to promote yourself
He is stating about the insensitivity of POSTING for all to see your enjoyment – that is insensitive – he is not saying not to go – but to post is insensitive!
Lets keep comments to topics & ideas, & not get personal.
It’s the opposite of Ahavas Yisrael . We certainly need all the ahavas chinam, & dan likaf zechus infused with the unlimited double simcha of ADAR to break all gezeiros for yidden, & for the safety of Eretz Hakodesh.
Thank you for speaking out!
Ppl shouldn’t be flaunting their indulgences at any time. Go on a vacation if you need it. But sharing it with the world is showing off and invading your own privacy
I have seen ads for Passover in Dubai!! Really, in luxurious hotels just so you can flaunt. When I came to learning, there was all this emphasis on being aware of others feelings, so how can frum people spend many thousands to give to goyim whilst Jewish sons and daughters are fighting our enimies? I think it’s disgraceful
In case you decided to donate your vacations to a soldier fighting this war. Here is a link to our charidy campaign for a local father who’s been away from home for over 100 days. https://www.charidy.com/IDFsupport
This is why I have zero social media accounts I’d really rather not know !
