The United States reported more than 50,000 new coronavirus cases Wednesday – a record high for a single day, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. Many states are struggling to contain the spread of the pandemic, blamed in part on Americans not wearing masks or following social distancing rules, CBS News reports.
Surging numbers in California prompted Governor Gavin Newsom to announce just ahead of the Fourth of July weekend that he was closing bars, theaters and indoor restaurant dining over most of the state, a region that includes about 30 million people and Los Angeles County.
“The bottom line is the spread of this virus continues at a rate that is particularly concerning,” Newsom said.
Confirmed cases in California have increased nearly 50% over the past two weeks, and COVID-19 hospitalizations have gone up 43%. Newsom said California had nearly 5,900 new cases and 110 more deaths in just 24 hours.
Infections have also been surging in states including Arizona, Texas and Florida, which recorded more than 6,500 new cases. Counties in South Florida were closing beaches to fend off large July Fourth crowds that could further spread the virus.
“Too many people were crowding into restaurants late at night, turning these establishments into breeding grounds for this deadly virus,” Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez said.
BC OF SUMMER PLANS EVERYONE IS GETTING TESTED, SO MORE CASES. DUH
There are many more cases because people are not wearing masks
It’s true that this is fake news. Trust me.
Pray tell why they are not reporting the lowering death rate along with this?
As of June 26 there were just over 400 deaths daily. For this the country is shut down and gone mad.
It’s not just going up because of more testing. There also are more hospitalizations, meaning more very sick people. Also the positivity rate has gone up i.e. the ratio of people testing positive after testing. More of the people going into hospitals now are younger age groups. In Florida it is also starting to hit seniors too, who are now being hospitalized.
In Texas, for example, the “more hospitalizations” are for surgeries that were postponed during the shutdown. Not because more people have coronavirus symptoms.
The young people in those states crowd into bars and restaurants, no masks, no social distancing, they are crammed in shoulder to shoulder, of course they get sick. It’s their own fault, but it’s because people are tired of quarantine. Now these stupid kids are having Covid-19 parties, where they give prizes to the first one who gets sick. If everybody would wear a mask and practice social distancing, wash hands, coronavirus would be over already and we could get on with our lives instead of all this.
They fail to mention that this follows the protests of hundreds and thousands of people in crowds practicing g zero social distancing. And approved by local politicians.
You daren’t say that!! You can’t say anything any more in the Land of Freedom!
Chevra, whether you dispute and challenge the legitimacy of official numbers, if Yidden are getting sick or dying that is what we need to be concerned about. I don’t understand why anyone in our community would buy into the politicization of a disease. Looking that the comments on this article shows that we have been infected (pun intended) by the goyishe mentality. What happened to care and ahavas yisroel. If just one yid is ill, that is enough for us to stop and think about what our actions mean for our neighbors. Enough of this “fake news, fake numbers, testing… Read more »
Let me know, for example, when you stop driving, because Jews have been killed in accidents, and it’s worth it if it saves “just one yid.” Petition the city to stop sending garbage trucks, since some time back a bochur was killed by one; how can having your trash picked up outweigh “just one yid”‘s life?
