In a popular decades-old tradition, Rabbi Pinny and Gitty Andrusier of Chabad of SW Broward in Florida once again hosted a five-star Rosh Hashanah – Yom Kippur experience in Fort Lauderdale. It was attended by locals as well as many who traveled from across the USA and beyond.
This year, the venue was the beautiful Bahia Mar Resort situated on the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. While other parts of Florida were suffering the effects of Hurricane Ian, the exquisite Rosh Hashana program carried on exactly as planned.
While prayers poured forth for the well-being of all those being affected by the storm, other than some flight delays and rainy weather outside, South Florida was thankfully spared.
With every fine detail carefully planned and prepared, from the colorful floral arrangements adorning the dining hall and synagogue to the beautiful personalized gift bag each guest received upon check-in, the Kosher Holiday Retreat offered an abundance of sustenance, both physically and spiritually. The catering by Executive Caterers and Chef Gary Rubin was absolutely gourmet and more than plentiful.
However, even more sumptuous was the ever-flowing food for thought offered by world-famous guest Scholar-in-Residence, Rabbi YY Jacobson. Rabbi Jacobson was erudite and entertaining as always, inspiring and regaling the crowds with his signature depth and sense of humor.
Joining for the very first time to ensure the highest caliber of lectures and holiday insights were Rabbi Yossy and Rochel Goldman of South Africa. Having recently become Life Rabbi Emeritus of the iconic Sydenham Shul in Johannesburg, Rabbi Goldman is now able to travel and accept such invitations. His sermons and lectures were welcomed with acclaim by the guests in attendance.
As expected, one of the many highlights was the Crossfire session which carried on until the wee hours of the morning. Guests of all ages were able to pose any question to the rabbis. Addressing queries on faith, relationships, medical ethics and contemporary Jewish issues, it was mind-blowing how both Rabbis Jacobson and Goldman kept the annual Crossfire Q&A moving along with brilliant wit, wisdom, and humor.
Rebbetzin Goldman added her own unique energy and enthusiasm in addressing the crowd. As a dedicated Rebbetzin and Shlucha since 1976, her characteristic zest and passion added deep spiritual value to this special event.
With the ballroom sanctuary filled to capacity, the crowd was mesmerized by the incredible voice of Chazan Yossi Baumgarten. Using traditional ballads and modern melodies, Baumgarten inspired all in attendance. His perfect blend of cantorial recitals and popular tunes encouraged the congregation to sing along throughout the services.
The program and services were directed by Rabbi Pinny himself, who serves as Spiritual Leader of Chabad SWB and Dean of the new TAG Academy in Cooper City, Florida. The rabbi also served as a great Master of Ceremonies, directing and chairing the various sessions and keeping things running on schedule. Behind the scenes, Rebbetzin Gitty was the perfect hostess, greeting each guest warmly upon arrival and attending to each one’s needs, and making certain everything flowed smoothly throughout their stay. A talented team of counselors entertained and educated the children and youth. Babysitters watched over the infants and youngest guests.
Due to the comfortable setting of the beachside resort, many guests returned for the Yom Kippur program. Overlooking the crystal blue ocean and enjoying the heartfelt prayers, services were truly heavenly. A gourmet meal was offered for both before and to break the fast, and once again the children were well-cared for.
All in all, it was a wonderful, inspiring and meaningful experience that created the perfect setting and springboard for the new year.
Thanks for sharing this great CHOL post and the illustrations from the Fort Lauderdale Tishrei event; it was obviously a significant spiritual and physical experience for all.
