Dear Crown Heights,
Words do not do justice to the “in house” community generosity that keep the shelves of the uniform Gemach stocked.
Without you the summer would herald despair as a new uniform season looms ahead.
Without you the uniform Gemach would not be able to create those smiles.
Without you many children would wear frayed shirts, ill fitting skirts and jumpers, and many would have no sweaters at all.
Without you the uniform gemach would simply not exist!
Each year the generosity astounds anew and leaves us with a feeling of intense and heartwarming pride in our community.
Thank you Mr. Teich, of Regency Cleaners, who makes it possible for each skirt to be permanently pressed before reaching our racks.
Thank you for the annual anonymous donations of new items still in their packages.
Thank you for all the gently worn clothing that goes on to bring joy to others.
Thank you for enabling so many girls to feel dressed and ready for each new school year.
Please continue to be there for so many of the children of Crown Heights by donating gently worn uniforms to the front stoop of 379 Crown St.
Wishing you and your families a safe and happy summer
Rochel Lustig

its sad that there is a need for the gemach, however the fact that there is should make the schools consider making uniforms more affordable, by making them more generic thus allowing parents to find “acceptable” uniforms. in the boys school they need to wear a white shirt that can be purchased for $8 whereas the girls have to buy expensive uniforms & vests with school name – they can adjust “uniform” to be simple skirt & shirt etc and as long as it fits criteria set by school can be purchased anywhere.. but then again… that would make sense… Read more »
