For the first time in her life, the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Germany, Hafsa Abdulla Mohamed Sharif Alulama, visited a synagogue.
She was welcomed at the Central Synagogue in the Jewish Chabad Community center by the Rabbi of Berlin Yehuda Teichtal. She came with a delegation of senior embassy staff.
Rabbi Teichtel notes how by divine providence, the meeting took place during the week when the Torah tells about Abraham, father of both Ishmael and Issac.
Not only the common origin, but also the belief that the peace treaty between UAE and Israel will bring a new era in the relationship between Jews and Muslims, led to an exciting discussion between the Ambassador and Rabbi Teichtal.
The Ambassador presented Rabbi Teichtal with the book “Reflections on Happiness and Positivity” by the Crown Prince of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, and in turn was delighted with the rabbi’s gift – a plaque with blessings.
The visit was prominently covered by the press, a half page article about the visit appeared in the Berliner Zeitung, one of the large daily newspapers of Berlin.
Also, so many names! She’s lucky she doesn’t have to get tefilin bags…
