By a grateful camper
As I sat at home this Friday night, my thoughts went back to last Friday night, my last Shabbos in Israel with camp YTT.
Everyone says a summer in YTT is amazing and totally life changing. And now that I’m home, I agree. But what was it? And why do I feel so sad that it’s over?
Was it Shabbos at the Kever of the Baal Shemtov where we literally felt the gates of shomayim open and we could ask for anything? Was it the Kevorim of our Rebbeim where we felt the connection to our past and who we are and where we come from? Was it the incredible seder nigunim in Chevron where every Jew who lives there is an example of mesiras nefesh? Was it the kever of the Rashbi? Was it the prison in Akko?
Or, was it snappling down a mountain in the Negev? Was it kayaking in the Jordan river? Was it camel riding? Was it swimming in the Yam Hamelech? Jeeping? Barbecues on Har Hagilboa? Our four incredible, caring and devoted counselors Miri, Bracha, Shaina, and Tzivi? Was it “color war”, homeless vs. sleepless?
Was it our hilarious tour guides? Shosh and Swerly? The emotional banquet?
As I sat there on Friday night, back at home, I wondered: What was it that made this truly the greatest summer ever?
And then I thought of just one Friday night before that. We were at the Kosel, all of us together. We all stood in a circle, surrounded by so many different types of people. Others too, were alone or in groups, all of us so different, yet experiencing the same thing.
And I remembered – that was when it all came together. Everything I had learned and experienced and seen throughout the entire summer – from the Kever of the Rashbi in the North to Masada in the south and every incredible experience in between – all became part of who are…
And who we are will never be the same.

thanks everyone for all the good words and comments. i loooooooooove doing this program, it is a great privilege, i get more than i give, thanks you again #22, but it was originally created by mrs. chani marinovsky, i worked for her for 12 years. it was her original vision.

And the GIRLS. The group was great. They were ONE, some who never knew each other, from other continents, became ‘sisters’. We had girls from all over America, from England, from Australia and even from Israel, and they all became ONE.
it was a zchus and a privilege to be with you all.
