Over 1,000 people gathered on the streets of Golders Green to accompany two completed Sifrei Torah this past Motzei Shabbos.
One written in memory of the Kedoshim of Mumbai HYD and the other written by the Gorman family, the Sifrei Torah were completed by Rabbi Yitzchok Meir Hertz, Rov of the Lubavitch community in Golders Green and Rabbi Nachman Sudak, Head Shliach in the UK at the Croft Court Hotel with the procession making its way on the closed main road towards Heichal Menachem.
Despite the freezing temperatures, the large crowd danced with great joy in this momentous occasion, in which the Moro Deasra, Rav Elchonon Halpern participated.
As the Sifrei Torah entered the Shul, it was as if Simchas Torah had somehow moved to the month of Kislev. Hundreds packed the Shul and after reciting Ata Hareisa, joined together in joyful dancing throughout the hakafos.
A Seudas Mitzvah/Melava Malka followed attended by 450 people. It started with a maamar recited by Rabbi Shmuel Zajac after which the MC, Mr. Yechiel Wilhelm recalled the terrifying Mumbai attacks and the days that followed, remembering the tremendous Emunah that reigned among everyone that the outcome would be different. This emunah is what we should live with, even through dark times the emunah in hashem should be as strong as it was in those few days of the attacks.
Rabbi Hertz mentioned his longtime connection with the Gorman family and wished the Shul, together will Lubavitch Shuls in the area, much hatzlacha. Rabbi Sudak pointed out that since it is Yud Tes Kislev, when we complete the Shas, Niglah, and the Tanya, Nistar, it is befitting that we complete two sifrei Torah.
The Guest speaker was Rabbi Shalom Osdoba, Rabbi of Hull, who pointed out the question many had, how two sifrei Torah can be completed together? That usually one simcha takes away from another simcha, while here each baal simcha gains from the other, for this Anash Shul has connected with the Beis Chabad of Mumbai, which highlights the connection between all centres of Anash with the thousands of Botei Chabad that interact with millions of Yidden worldwide.
A presentation was also made by Rabi Naftoli Cohen to Mr. Yossi Potash, for his tremendous achievement in arranging the writing of the Sefer Torah and coordinating the special event. Rabbi Cohen concluded his presentation by adding that after this tremendous event, everyone in Golders Green will know where the Lubavitch Shul is.
