On Sunday, 26th of Elul, Shmuel Zahavy Cheder Chabad – Toronto celebrated a milestone, with the completion and dedication of a new Sefer Torah.
It was donated by the Cheder’s main patron and benefactor Mr. Yehezkel Zahavy who was surrounded by his family, including two brothers who came especially for the occasion from Eretz Yisroel.
The Siyum took place in the next door Shul Bais Franklin, where many people participated in writing the last letters, including the Talmidim of Grade 8, all the Rebbeim and Staff and many members of the community.
From there the march went to the Cheder with Hakofos taking place outside in the street followed by the Hachnoso to the Cheder’s Aron kodesh.
The Simcha was followed by a grand Seudas Mitzvah, for the guests in Bais Franklin, and for the Cheder boys and their Rebbeim in the Cheder gym.
The siyum was attended by all the Cheder children, the Rebbeim, parents, Rabonim, Schluchim and Anash.
“It was truly a Simcha for all that attended and especially for all the cheder boys who were Zoiche to their very own Sefer Torah,” says one of the participants.

You have accomplished so much over the years
to make Cheder Chabad a world-renowned Lubavitcher school. Mr. Zahavy and Family……………… A Groise Yasher Koach for upholding the Cheder over the years. May you continue to go from strength to strength! And of course a Groise Yasher Koach to the guntze crew of meladmim, admin, ect. ect. A good year to all.
I always have fond memories of my teachers in the Cheder from years back (late 80s and early 90s)- Rabbi Greenwald, Rabbi Rosenfeld, Rabbi Cohen and Rabbi Wolowik. Im glad to see that the Cheder is growing and may it go from strength to strength and continue to educate our future.
