Sunday was truly something special.
The well-worn pavement of Kingston Ave has seen many celebrations, even many hachnasos Sefer Torah, but for us and so many others who expressed the same, Sunday was unique.
To see so many people from our precious community gather together outside a relatively small boutique store is not something you see every day. Through the decades that our dear mother stood as a bulwark of compassion and love behind her cashier’s counter, a place that in so many other instances would be simply somewhere to go and get another chore done was transformed into a neighborhood icon. A watering hole not for the stomach but for the soul.
The large and diverse number of faces clamoring in and outside her boutique of love made us realize just how much of a treasure she was not only for us, her dear family, but for the entire neighborhood for which she never intended to be an icon yet unwittingly so became.
For such feelings of elation and comfort, of bereavement and betterment all mixed into one to be possible, it could only have happened with the tremendous outpouring of love from the entire community. And for that, we are eternally grateful. Grateful that the beautiful Sefer Torah that graced the main boulevard and shul of our little corner of the world could truly be the uniting force that it was and will hopefully always will be.
To the entire community of which we are blessed to be a part of, thank you so much.
The Gansburg family
P.S. It would mean so much to us if whoever has any video footage from the siyum at the store or the procession on Kingston Ave to please whatsapp it to 347 224 5808, or e-mail [email protected]
