“Our Tatti was not just our father, but a father to thousands. He gave his life over to the world and we were happy to share him with all. No one will ever be able to fill the spaces he left.”
This is how the Tevel family describe their beloved father, Reb Yossel Tevel, who suddenly passed away at the age of 55 last week.
News of his passing shocked the Crown Heights community, where he was known as a man of chesed. Some 104 comments on COLlive.com mourned his giving personality.
Whether it was a person who needed bail posted, food to survive the week, or proper medical treatment, they relied on “Papa Bear,” as he was known to thousands of his loving “cubs.”
For those who didn’t know him, Tevel was a father, a teacher, and a kind baal chesed and baal tzedaka (a charitable and kind man).
One person wrote on TevelFamily.com: “Having received a great education from Papa Bear, I will try to share the love and warmth that Yossi had to everyone I know, especially those in need of a lift.”
“He did more Chessed single-handedly than 100,000 others do collectively, in a lifetime,” one told the family during the Shivah.
“The orphans are not only his 6 children but the countless thousands whom he helped daily and whose life depended on him.”
With that said, his family is now in dire need of financial assistance and don’t have their ‘Papa Bear’ to turn to.
Needing to pay for food, clothing, shelter, health and heat – in addition to other expenses – the family need your help today.
