A record of over one thousand people are expected at high Holiday services at Chabad of Kathmandu, Nepal starting this Monday night.
The local Chabad shluchim Rabbi Chezky and Chanie Lifshitz spent the last few weeks greeting and registering Israeli backpackers and expats.
They are being assisted in the holiday cooking by Lubavitch bachurim Shmuel Lasker and Mendy Nabul and many Israeli volunteers.
The Chabad House, located in the city’s tourist haven the Thamel, is being closely watched and guarded by undercover Israeli security forces.
Following the assassination of Hizbullah Chief of Staff Ismael Henya, Israeli and Jewish hubs have been possible targets of terror attacks – the Chabad house, arguably one of the most popular stops for Israeli tourists in the Far East, is one of them.
In the neighboring city of Pokhara, temporary Chabad Shluchim Rabbi Mendy and Sarah Goldshmidt are expecting some 400 people for the holiday prayers and meals.
